Awhile back EC posted some video of him deadlifting in some old school Converse All-Stars and he mentioned that you can really feel the floor better.
Recently I read that running shoes are horrible to workout in, especially squats because of the cushioning and the forward lean created by the shoes. I went to Sports Authority to buy a pair of cross trainers and couldn't find any that I liked or that fit correctly.
So, I decided I would try out my Chuck Taylors.
Well, if you check my log you'll see the incredibly brutal leg workout courtesy of Mike Mejia. Let me tell you, the Converse were awesome. I could feel more in my legs top to bottom than ever before. I felt like I could hold my form better doing squats and really felt the pain the next day.
DOMS has been killing me in the legs all week. Today finally it is subsiding but I hit my legs again tonight.
Thankfully I can save some cash since finding out just how incredible the Converse work.
Thanks EC.
I highly recommend using the Chuck Taylors to anyone looking to change up shoes. I use the original low tops. There also is some evidence that ankle injuries are less likely with these style shoes as well, but that's for another thread.

I have customized all black chucks with red lettering, best investment ever, great lifting shoes. Not the most stylish shoes ever, but if you're trying to win a beauty contest in the gym you probably suck at lifting anyway.

Seriously! I am pissed right now because I hurt my knee doing lunges on Monday (FL I-B) I can't squat, lunge or DL/RDL. I had planned to buy some lowtop Chucks on Monday night too!
anyone know what the hell I did wrong? And what I can do until I heal?
I have a pair of those that I wear. They're flat soled, with maybe the slighest heel. Great strong sides that I can push out against for squats. I have to pick up a pair of adidas superstars first, but my next pair of shoes after that will be chucks.

Did you perhaps lose your balance and flexed your knee in a direction it wasn't meant to move in order to catch yourself? I've heard that pushing off with the ball of the foot destabilizes the stance, so one should always push off with the heel.
Also, let's see FLI-B would have been bulgarian split squats. Is your stance wide enough so you aren't pushing outward on your knee?
I used to do that on regular lunges. Once the foot extended out, I would continue to push forward instead of lowering.
Nike Frees are great too. Never going back to running shoes.
I always wondered about these. I'd really like to pick up a pair, but I'm never sure because they're low-cuts and I was wondering if that made a difference in PL squats. I use the guidelines in Tate's Squatting from Head to Toe and I really push out on the sides of my high top Nikes, spreading the floor. I was wondering if the fact that the Free's dont have those sides, if it affects that aspect of a PL squat. They always talk about why the Chucks are great because they're flat soled and the strong canvas sides.

Once I moved to Boston, I bought some Chucks. I also wear Nike Free's when I am at work. THE most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever bought. Then again, I have flat feet......so it makes sense. Someone with very supinated (high arched) feet probably wouldn't like them.
I also wear a pair of chucks for lifting except for deads or oly lifting, then I wear adididas ironwork 2's. What do you guys think is the best to wear for deadlifting? the chucks or the oly shoes?
I'd say the chucks because don't the oly shoes have that heel? The chuck give you the flat sole contact with the floor, making it easier to drive through your heels.
