Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 131 – Gathering Storm
(My Dear Friends, if you read the motivator and don’t wish to post a comment, just give it a bump to keep it current. Thank you.)
Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 131 – Gathering Storm
Gathering Storm
As I sat relaxing on this beautiful Sunday evening, it occurred to me that I needed an idea for the motivator. I am truly one of those people who often waits until the last minute and who seems to work well under pressure. I do keep a list of ideas as they come to me, but none of them sparked my interest while reading over them. The sun was low in the sky and there was a gentle breeze flavoring the air with the taste of late summer and burgeoning autumn.
Sitting and thinking about what I would write, I heard the first few drops of rain hitting outside the open window. Yes, open windows are the rule in our home, unless it’s very hot and humid. Earlier today, I was amazed as I ran through the neighborhood in the cool morning air how many homes were shut up and the people were still confining themselves inside and using their air conditioners.
The rain continued, yet it was still so bright outside that I thought this could not be more than a brief sprinkle and I made no move to close the windows. I returned to my list of ideas and soon the noise of the rain was mingled with the metallic sound of hail hitting the gutters. Before long, the sky had darkened and the storm had me running around the house, upstairs and down, closing windows and doors and testing my overall speed and agility.
I returned to my computer and punched up the weather radar and there it was. There was my idea. As the Doppler radar map loaded, there were the states of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, with little segments of the surrounding states filling the screen. And, the only place in all that real estate where the radar revealed a storm was over my area. That shapeless blob on the radar was pure motivation.
Often our lives can seem like that radar screen and what’s more, it seems like that storm cloud is hanging over us and no one else. Come on, we experience those “why me” periods in our lives. We seem to be the one area on the map of life that has a storm hovering over it
Closing the weather window on my computer, I returned to organizing my thoughts and within a short time the rain stopped. I paused and opened doors and windows. The breeze was fresh and the air was clean and invigorating. As darkness settled the storm that had caused minor chaos and interrupted my labors, had passed and had actually brought refreshment.
The problems that we face, the troubles that seem targeted at us alone, the interruptions in our lives can often be seen like that storm, and also like that storm, will soon pass. And what is more, often they will give us a new perspective, bring the unexpected gift of refreshment and increased resolve. All we have to do is wait, move on with what we are doing, and let their passing take its course.
On this day of remembrance; this day of recall and returning grief; this day on which we commemorate the Pearl Harbor of the twenty-first century, let us hope that the storm has passed and that in its passing there will be a renewal of spirit and of hope within all of us.

I always get that feeling to, TG, like he's been looking over my shoulder, watching.
Thanks, John.

Nice one, John.
Some of us have chosen to video-tape the storm, and are in the habit of slipping it into the DVD/VCR a little too often. Part of the renewal of spirit is allowing the storm to become a memory; not lost, but kept less poignant than the present and future.

Having just gone through a shower as opposed to a storm (compared to what others on this forum have gone through recently) this puts some things into a very pleasant perspective for me. It makes me happy that I can still get up every day and lift or run and that the good Lord has granted me those gifts.

Greg,
I have only just found out the nature of your storm and am in awe of the inspiration you have brought to me and this forum. Thank you.

Too late, my friend. The inspiration has already happened and there is no drawing it back.
