I strained my lower back 2 weeks ago, which has been healing (very slowly). Anyways, I was scheduled to start hgm phase 3 1 1/2 weeks ago (one day with deads, the other with squats and the third with just upper body ie bench). After some time off, my back is fine with upper body lifts, but aggravated it with light overhead squats today. I am planning on staying away from squats/deads/GM's for a few more weeks to let the back heal. My question is what should I do to stay with the hgm theme. I will continue the 5 sets of 5 reps as the plan calls for, but I don't know what to substitute for the two lower body days (2 out of the three workouts per week). I am very frustrated, as I have been looking forward to the workout for hgm 3, and have an outdoor party (ie. shirtless) the end of May that I have been attempting to peak for. This is my first post and look forward to conversing with all of you in the future. Sorry for the vagueness of the hgm 3 movements as I don't want to take up too much room.

aidan,
You should try some joint mobility work for your low back/hips/torso..."you gotta be in it to win it." Helps aid in recovery and prevent injury.

My low back gets tweaked every so often and the joint mobility work has been amazing. I peiced my routine together from stuff I learned from Steve Maxwell and some articles by Scott Sonnon.

In Health,
