Default what size foam roller?

I assume 36" long, but, 4" or 6" diameter?

it looks like 6" is the starter size, so I assume its what I want, but figured i should check with 'those in the know'.

thanks!

6" diameter works for most uses

I only got the 12" length. That 36" one would be nice sometimes, but the shorter one is just smaller and easier to carry or store. Either length will work pretty well.

I'd say 6" dia, as well.

As for length, I would suggest 36". I've got a shorter one, and it would be easier to shift from one side of my body to another with a longer roller.

I'm actually recommending the Foam Roller Plus to people now that I've tried it myself (and fallen in love with it). Much longer lifespan and definitely more effective. I reviewed it in a recent newsletter:

thanks guys!

I think the only thing left to add to my 'arsenal' is dynamic stretching...and its soon to follow.
i just don't wanna overload my head with all these techniques while trying to learn the stuff for the CSCS exam.

You can get them at Perform Better pretty affordably. Here's one of their rollers (with a PVC core), but you can browse around or do a search... I believe they even have a variety pack for under $30.

i actually wish i would have gotten the larger one, because it's hard to balance on a foot when you're doing stuff like IT band.

I'd recommend this one two. It's $35 but it's supposed to last something like five years. My regular roller already has ruts after 2 months.

Also, for anywhere rolling, you might want to buy a regular 36x6 roll and cut it into 12" sections. They cut easiily with a kitchen knife.

Good idea. Maybe one 12" and one 24" section would be easier?

hmmm, I've never had a problem with my 12" foam roller, although it shows signs of use. I just made $50 today, gotta put some of it aside for fitness stuff. First on the list: Foam Roller Plus, then on to bands

I use the 36" at home and pack a 12" in a small gym bag and roll on my lunch hour at work.

I got the 12" long 6" diameter "el cheepo" and love it. I concur with jruck37, sometimes its a pain to switch from side to side, but other than that I love it.

It was the best ten bucks I've ever spent.

I have the longer foam roller plus, and also have a shorter chunk of 6 inch diameter PVC pipe that I got from home depot. I used that on my calves, and hammys........sometimes all of my areas. Much more effective for me
