Default My first strongman experience

Well I had my first contest this weekend, heres how it went
1. Log Medley, I only got the 1st of 4 logs it was the 180# log
2. Farmers Walk 220# each hand, I got 40 feet of the possable 100
3. Keg carry for distance 200# made it 190 feet
4. 400 pound deadlift for reps, got 4 reps which matches my gym best
5.Atlas stones, only got the 240 # stone.

Well I finished in either last or second to, but I learned a lot and had a blast. I weighed in at 190 so I definately need some more mass, also I needed more practice with the implements. I was really glad to get the experience of competing and now I can go into the winter with some goals for my next contest.

cool man, sounds like you had a good time and learned some stuff. If I were bigger/stronger I think something like this would be a blast. It would give me something to train for, instead of simply throwing weights around.

That's awesome that you just went out there and did it! I'm going to look for my first contest next year.

Maybe we can start a strongman training thread eventually

Just getting out there and getting the experience is great. I'm sure you'll be up towards the top quickly with hard work and perseverance. Good job man!

Very cool, good job. I was going to compete, but had too much stuff going on with work lately.

Now get over to my gym and I'll train ya!

Good going UMASS. You should be proud of what you did for sure. Take up John's advice and go get some serious training now that you've gotten your feet wet. He'll undoubtedly take you to many new levels.

Impressive. It's fantastic to see you put yourself on the line, to put yourself out there. That takes courage. Now you've got the sense of it, know what you need to do, and I'm sure you've got the willingness to do it too. Way to go!

Great job. I had so much fun in my first strongman comp. The environment was awesome. I ma hoping that they have it again this year, but if not I may head off to Kentucky to watch Danny compete in nationals(will be about the same time).

Dude! That is sooooo awesome. Competition brings out a whole other level in people. I'm glad you did it, as I am sure you are. Every time you go out there, you will learn new stuff, talk to people who have been doing it, and get better. Good on you, for having the courage to try.

And remember: DFL>DNF>DNS...

In my book, you came in first. It's you against the iron at this point, and you kicked ass by just showing up and trying. Just aim to do better each time you compete. Great job and hats off to you.

One question. Was the deadlift section, a traditional lift, and how much time did you have to complete it? Could you readjust once you completed a rep?

Great Job!!
