Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 130 – Labor Day
(My Dear Friends, if you read the motivator and don’t wish to post a comment, just give it a bump to keep it current. Thank you.)
Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 130 – Labor Day
Labor Day
Today is a day for some very brief rambling thoughts. I woke up this morning and it seemed like Sunday. Nope, it was just that annual reward day, a single day off, for the average Joe, called Labor Day. Sad, I think, that a good number of the people for whom the day was decreed, have to work, because so many of us can’t do without a trip to Wal-Mart or the gas station or a fast food joint for one day a year.
Putting those thoughts aside I went down to the basement to begin my workout. With me, there is no day off from a scheduled workout. Maybe I am just like those people who can’t keep from flocking to Wal-Mart today. It’s an obsession, an addiction.
We hear, see and read so much about the beautiful people, the movie stars, the athletes and the celebrities and how they get and stay in shape. I, for one, am about to puke if I read another word about how these people sacrifice and work so hard to stay in shape for their “jobs.” If they work hard, more power to them but excuse me, isn’t that part of their job? And don’t they get paid millions for that very job that most of us would do for nothing if given the chance for a moment of fame? Sour grapes you may cry and feel free to do so.
The folks that I prefer to think about today are the rest of you gals and guys, holding down a job, making a living, raising families, going to school. I have said it before, but just have to say it again. For my money, you are the heroes. You exercise before work, on your lunch hour, after work. You train for a marathon, a triathlon, a stongman competition, a swim meet, a race, whatever it might be. And there will not be a million dollar check waiting for you when you finish. In fact, you do all of this over and above a full week of work. I am proud of you and wish you a Happy Labor Day.

Have a Great Week!

Thanks John. I was the only one who was in my gym today from 4:30 - 5:30 am. It was nice and peacful but I kept wondering where everyone was.
Have a great day all.

A nice reminder that fame and fortune aren't eh rewards for taking care of yourself. Being active and feeling healthy is its own reward, and you don't have to be a celeb to have it. All it costs is a dash of commitment and a pinch of sacrifice.

I hit the gym before I had to come into the mall and babysit for the day. At least the workout was worthwhile, sitting here all day sure isn't. Thanks for the motivator and enjoy your average Joe's Holiday.

Nice one John, it definately is a holiday for the workers, but is rarely enjoyed by them. After my 10 hour day, gym time, and dinner. I enjoyed the rest of my labor day (10pm) by going to bed early.

Lisa and I did a 30 mile bike ride and then spent the afternoon at the zoo with the little one. A zoo docent took the time when he could have been heading home and led us into the back area of the zoo to see some of the raptors up close. I think his is a labor of love. Thanks Bob!
