Lifting Pays Off BIG TIME
My 14 year old, 70 pound, senile German Shepherd decided to take a flying leap out of my car. Landing on her bad hip would have meant "the end" for her. I caught her, mid-air, at knee level, and gently set her down.
I might have saved her life. Thank God for dead lifts.
I always semi-jokingly tell people who nag, "Why do you need to go to the gym all the time??" that I want to be able to lift my big dogs into my old age. Little did I know that that prophesy would come true.

Nice work! A new reason why deadlifts are great.

Good job - the quality of life improvements with weightlifting can't be denied. That's more than enough reason to go to the gym.

The doubter: "So you can lift XXX pounds. Why would you want or need to do that?" Your story serves as an excellent example that unexpected stuff happens. You never know when that strength might be needed to save a life. Isn't it better to go through life knowing that you're ready?

What better reason to lift than the ability to catch a friend in need. Nice job.

You'll need a bigger dog if you ever want to improve.

Good - the thread is now complete!
At the risk of sounding sappy, I really owe a lot of it to this forum. Previously I did a lot more beach muscle work at the gym. I read about NROL, PM'd Lisa a few times and bought the book. It has completely turned my lifting around. I am lifting more than I ever have in my life - and I'm 52 years young. (But don't tell anybody, it's a secret!)
