Talking Great core exercise using Smith Machine

Here's a cool exercise that Bill H. put in my most recent program. JP filmed it for me (and was very confused when I told him that I needed to use the smith machine for a program designed by Bill...until he saw what I was doing )

The first time I did it I thought it was great, but a little challenging without someone to help me stretch the band from the top of the power cage so I could safely get it around my feet. So the smith machine was very useful as I could adjust the height of the bar and make it so I can single handedly get in the band all by myself

Feel it in low abs and hip flexors, not to mention staying in the push-up position for that long, it's a total core exercise.

PS JP is saying "do one more"

Yeah, I have to admit that was a pretty funny moment. When I finally saw what she was doing I sighed with relief.

Oh, oh, I guess you could do those with a partner holding your ankles, yes? I'll try this today with the guys, see what happens and let you know.

The band is about eye level..any higher and it's too hard to stretch and get in yourself...make sure no one is behind you when you let go :p

yeah, let me know how the ankle holds work. With the bands, it gets harder the closer your knees get to your chest, plus Bill has me do them with slow tempos like 2-2-2 or 3-2-1 And I guess it would be more wobbly with the band since part of the act is balancing on two arms ...

Y'all ALL should try them and report back

That's 2 exercises it's good for. It also works for reverse push up's.

Buk has also shown us that they're good for handstand pushups, too, so that's three.

That's nothing compared to swiss ball bench press on the smith machine. Which I have seen, I just stared in dismay, that guy's stabilizers must've have been damn confused!

That's a great exercise though. Can't wait to see the looks I get using that one, considering people look at me like I'm from another planet when just doing DB farmer's walks. My gym sucks.
