I started my new workout routine three weeks ago. I would rather not go into what I am doing on what days, if you must see do a search for yovwmon and you will find the whole thing in another post.

I am working all my muscles only once a week and it seems like I am loosing my pumps and my muscles seem to be getting softer than they were when I was working out every day.

I know that I am supposed to rest and take days off, but this new gig I am on just doesn’t seem to cut it and I’m about to swing back to my old ways of working out all the time.

Why do I feel this way, I have worked so hard to get to where I was and it seems like I am loosing everything I worked for because of a routine that only allows me to concentrate on each muscle once a week?

Do you think I should change what I am doing again?

I am going to start a cutting phase within the next two weeks, I have never done this in my life, any guidance and knowledge you can provide would be of great assistance.

#1. three weeks isn't really enough time to gauge a decent program. often they're broken down into stages of increasing intensity.

#2. getting\losing a pump doesn't mean anything. your muscles are as big as they are. Just because you're not swole all the time doesn't mean that you're not making gains.

#3. That said bodpart training isn't really a preferred method of training. I belive you've heard this before but go to the faq page and look at predesigned routines and stick to one. As long as your diet is in the region of decent you're going to make gains.

I would suggest going to www.t-nation.com, clicking on archives up near the top, and searching through 2004 and 2005. It won't take long - look for articles by Chad Waterbury. They are mostly 3 day per week, total body workouts, which are pretty much the opposite extreme of what you are currently doing, which means they should work for you. Below are links to two of his routines, great stuff!

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't find any of your posts with your workout listed.

However, I've gone a long, long time without changes showing on the scale, BF%, measurements, etc. You just have to have faith that it's working (assuming you have a good workout and are following a good diet, of course).

Muscles at rest are soft. When you give them days to rest, they lose their pump, too. This does not effect their growth or recovery, per se. However, now that you are giving them time to rest, they should be recovering better than when you were working them out every day.

Many cutting routines alternate between two workouts, so you do about three a week, but give each muscle group enough time to recover before you hit it again.

Have you looked at Craig's Turbulence Training workouts? If not, and you're concerned, give one a try. They have a great track record, so you shouldn't be concerned that it wouldn't work. There have been several printed in Men's Fitness in the recent past. If you can locate one, give it a try. Or you can take the plunge and get Craig's whole TT for Fat Loss Special Report from turbulence training.com.

TT for fat loss is a three day a week program, but he gives you plenty of HIIT/Interval training, plus Core workouts for the days in between (for those still itching to keep workout out). Highly recommended. Plus, check out the Training Log forum here at jpfitness to see a lot of folks using the TT programs with great success.

I believe this is more of a psychological problem than anything.
However, if you do not feel you are making progress on your current routine, feel free to alter the parameters to suite your needs. There are thousands of workouts to choose from that do not fall under the "once per week target" catergory.

Go with a premade routine - in addition to all the other benefits, it eliminates the need for self-doubt about the program's design, which I am sensing in your post.

Hope this helps.

My roommate is doing RRD. Hes used to BB splits and getting a big pump. He wants to cut so I did his nutrition and gave him the routine. He would harp about that but everytime he'd say "I just dont feel like Im going hard" Id say "Well then lift heavier weight." His response is usually "I cant" then I say "well then shut up, if youre giving it 100% then youre fine." His cutting has been going quite well
