Question

Wondering how exactly a sprinter works out. I know they run and work on short distance speed and so forth, but having never been a sprinter, not exactly sure what all work entails working out like a sprinter...sprinting, weights, etc? I know that they have some of the best physiques around and it might be a good change of pace as far as a workout(s). I tend to head more in the direction of linebacker/safety as far as physique, but would like to get a bit more streamlined, but still muscular. Not sure if this all makes sense haha. But the sprinter's physique and the health that I'm sure corresponds is great...so I thought someone on this board might have some information they could provide. But any information would be greatly appreciated and the more the better!

Your question is far beyond the capacity of a simple forum answer.

While I don't like to direct folks from this forum because of it's quality, www.charliefrancis.com is probably the best sprinter source out there.

If you're serious, by Charlie's book it may be the best one out there.

After you read a bit of it, feel free to ask specific questions.

I don't know... I get the feeling you are looking more for some spring workouts that you can incorporate into your own routine. Bill, do you think that adding some sprint drills, like a few times a month?

If this draws the thread really far off topic, could someone move this to the off-topic section?

I'm curious, Bill, how you feel about Charlie Francis. Not to be inflammatory, but if I recall correctly (and I might not), Francis was Ben Johnson's coach during the Seoul Olympics in '88--the proverbial death of track and field as we know it.

I know that his involvement doesn't necessary mean he doesn't know anything or that his knowledge is invalid, but I might find it difficult to buy a book (and therefore financially support) someone with that sort of a record.

I can't move an individual post to the off topic forum. It is really up to you or the others who post in here. If you don't like how far away from the original topic the post is heading you can always start a seperate thread in another forum and post in here with a link to it. I usually take a pretty laissez-faire approach to posts though because I enjoy seeing all the possible directions a thread can go.

Exactly, but more like a few times a week.

Just me,

You want sprint workouts for physique enhancement/health vs. something for performance...am I correct?

Ben Johnson 100m in 9.79 sec 1988
Tim Montgomery 100m in 9.78 sec 2002

It took 16 years to catch up...perhaps his [Charlie's] training methodology is valid??
