I sweat a lot when I work out--even in martial arts classes with people who are in far worse physical condition than me (by any measure) I'm usually the sweatiest guy. I've heard that as you get in "better shape" (although I don't know what aspect of fitness is referred to) your body learns to cool itself more efficiently--hence increased sweating. Any truth to this?

I have the same exact problem. Even after 5 minutes of working out, I start to sweat like I'm in a sauna. After an hour, I have to change T-shirts because my shirt is drenched(sp?) in sweat. Anyone response would be nice, I'v wondered the same thing!

Don't sweat it fellas. [that was for my benefit...I had to do it]

Are you guys heavily stressed during your normal daily activities?

Do you sweat a lot at rest?

Sometimes it can be a sign of excessive nevous system stimulation (sympathetic response).

There are some meds that can reduce it, but they screw with your whole body, not just the sweat glands. Botox works too.

Personally, if it's just during exercise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Lower your daily stress levels and see how that goes (Is that even possible in our world).

And some people just happen to sweat a lot. I wouldn't say that there's any relation between volume of sweat and fitness levels though.

Bill and bryan, thanks for the replies: not stressed at all during normal activities, and don't sweat much at rest. Although I have noticed that I sweat more when my CNS is fatigued--i.e. in periods where I might be "overreaching" or bordering on overtraining. Like you said, it's just during exercise, so I'm not going to worry about it. I was just curious about the cause.

JP: Don't worry, I'd probably be on the ground so fast that I wouldn't have time to sweat on you!
