You may as well put down my 220 for 5x5 @ bodyweight of 170 as my 1 rep max for now...I'm a little under that right now so it will give me some incentive to beat it.

I wish I was in, but this one has way to much room for error. I know we are an honest bunch, but when it comes to squating, everyone thinks they hit parallel, no matter how shitty it was. This is usually magnified when you have a contest and people are trying to beat their best prior number.
That was the best part of the DL. You either get it locked out, or you don't. No judgement needed.

Best of luck though!
Ahh, but who knows who hitched those deads!
I think most people on this site have a good idea of what is paralell and what is not. If someone is a half inch high, its not going to matter. its all for fun.

You've got a point. But when I squat I use a normal empty cardboard box so when I touch the box I know that I've reached the required depth but the box isn't strong enough to hold me so I can't take a little rest or bounce of the box. I think it's a great of checking your depth.
I do the same thing as Nick, but I just use my box squats boxes instead, set up below parallel. If I stop at the bottom, I kill any momentum I had hitting the hole and bouncing back up. I don't know if its just me, but squatting from a dead stop is harder than going down then back up. I think I'll havfe to grab a cardboard box next time just to make sure. Thanks for the idea Nick!

Hmmm looked at my form again and although I'm lowere than parallel - I'm kidding myself that it's all the way ATG yet. Change me to powerlifting style in the meantime- I'm well inside that - got 160kg - gotta love NROL S1! Look forward to Deadlifts start of next week!

the bar is high up on my traps and just below my neck with a shoulder width stance, so i'd say powerlifting style (am i right?)
It depends on the depth more than the placement of the bar. Oly style is where you do a full back squat, ATG, hammies touching calves. Powerlifting style is as close to below parallel as possible.

I think foot placement rather than bar placemenet would determine if one would be doing typical OL or powerlifting squats. An OL squat tends to have the bar higher up on the traps with a narrow to medium width stance. A PL squat tends to have the bar lower on the shoulders AND a wider stance to really get the glutes, hammies and lowerback into the movement. There are also variations of each type of squat also.

hmm I guess I go just about below parallel, almost touching but not quite touching my calves. With a shoulder width stance
I would have to say that is more OL style than a PL style squat. Do whatever style you feel more comfortable doing techniquewise. Below parallel is always good
