Found this on youtube.com. Eric, was this taken at Excel?

Look at that smile when he's done. Yeah, it's good!

No, that was at Peak Performance in NYC a few weeks ago during the seminar he and Mike R did.

Pretty, pretty gym. Do you know who that is in the background?

Impressive lift of course. Would most say his form was good or was his lower back rounded some? I'm just curious about what everyone thinks of his form in the vid

Remember that it's a max attempt, so that's not the time for a form critique.

True, but people come here to learn and copying ECs technique would generally be a good way to do that, but perhaps not in this case. Hence my question on form...

If you look REALLY close, his lumbar spine is neutral, it's his thoracic spine that is rounded. As long as you stay out of the final 2-3 degrees of flexion, you are fine. Most people aren't able to stay out of that end range, and hence, end up rounding their lumbar spine, which can (and more often than not, will) lead to injury.

Yeah, after watching the vid a few times I noticed his lower back did stay flat and he only rounded forward his shoulders. Which from everything I've seen or read is proper form. Thanks!

That really is a nice lift. And a better instructional video than I've seen in other places.

I know we're not supposed to talk about form, but I couldn't help but notice that Eric is launching this deadlift with less of a squat-down than I usually launch my DL's. Do most people here start from approx. the level Eric did for this 600 pounder?? I'm wondering whether I should work on my launch position....

That looked more like a straight leg deadlift though or a romainian beginning at the eccentric making it even more impressive for that fact.
