Alright, I know this has been posted 10,000 times before, but I have to get it off my chest.
A few minutes ago I was mixing up my Metabolic Drive in our lunch room, and a coworker walks in and says "Don't go testing positive!"
So, as always, this sends me on a 10 minute rant as to what I'm REALLY drinking and why he can find the same type of protein in just about any food he eats.
Why the hell do we always have to defend ourselves for eating healthy?
I also have another coworker who commented that she worried about my health because I was taking creatine. It is a steroid, after all!:p
I always ask them if they have read the label on there frozen lunch entree and if they can explain half of what the ingredients in their lunch are. At least I know what is in my protein drink.
"yea, I know........I will be careful.............If I got caught with this stuff, I would be locked up and lose my job!!" "Protein is so illegal and bad for you, I already got my fix this morning eating my 4 egg omlete." "Did you have any protein today??, if you did, be careful"
That kind of thing
Depending on the tone you say it with, they usually get the point and leave you alone.
I forgot to mention that the guy was the manager who arranges all of our drug testing here!
I threw in the comment that the brand of PP I was using was the same as the brand our company president uses (he's an avid cyclist). So, hopefully he thinks our president is a juicer, too.:p
It just never ends. I guess I should know better by now.
Frank, where did you hear that these guys were testing positive for MM?? I gotta check that out!
There is actually a protein limit in the NCAA with their athletes. Basically you as an athlete can take what you want...but the school cannot give out or supply protein that has over 30 grams (number may be off, its been a while since I saw the document) per serving. Bars, or shakes included.
Not sure if this has anything to do with the article, but that is all I can think of.
EDIT: Here is some info that I found
"If a supplement fits into one of the categories, the next step is determining the percentage of its calories that come from protein. By rule, no more than 30 percent of calories can come from protein, a figure that the association says represents a calories-from-protein ratio comparable to a typical balanced meal. Wilfert also notes that protein ratios above 30 percent are frequently found in muscle-building and weight-gain supplements.
A supplement that fits an accepted category and falls below the protein limit must also meet one more test: It may not contain any banned substance, or any ingredient specified by the NCAA as impermissible (to see the most up-to-date list of impermissible ingredients, go to www.ncaa.org and search for “impermissible supplements”). The list includes several popular supplements and compounds considered to be performance enhancing, such as ginseng, tribulus, and ginkgo biloba. It also includes protein powders, because any product with added protein from artificial, non-whole-food sources—often referred to on a label as a “protein blend” or “proprietary protein”—cannot be distributed. Products that contain added amino acids or amino acid chelates are also impermissible."
Other substances found in bovine colostrum include casein, lactoferrin, alpha-lactalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin, and the growth factors insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2), transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta) and epidermal growth factor (EGF).

IGF-1, Bingo.
So thats how muscle milk gets you hyooge!

Just shows how freakin' naive and hypocritical our society is. We value the skinny body with the 'six pack' but anybody that eats healthy or uses any supplement is on roids. We're all aware of the child obesity epidemic but they're are school districts that don't allow protein supplements but have vending machines filled with candy bars and soda, and serve fried food for lunch. Somehow there's nothing wrong with bringing donuts or McD's to work, but protein shakes are unhealthy.

dude, they're not testing postitive. Read the article again. Defranco said,
"I asked him if they actually said "Muscle Milk" or did these kids get busted for steroids and then they just tried to place the blame on a supplement...he told me that they were told they were actually suspened for drinking Muscle Milk!!"
it doesn't say anywhere that they tested positive for anything. It just says the NCAA suspended them for drinking it. They probably believe that it's a steroid or something, and suspended them for it.

I just assumed. What, they got caught drinking it 'red handed' ? haha.

That doesn't give me a whole lot of faith in the leadership.

Harboring a little anger on this subject are you Jason?
I work in a large area and sometimes people see me mixing my drinks. A few have asked other co-workers behind my back if I use steroids. All you can do is laugh it off. NOW, if I was mixing it up and drinking it from a Mcdonalds cup, they wouldn't even notice. Fuck em....(roid rage?)
Oh, I also love firing my weapons on weekends, and the combination of the 2 scares the hell out of people! I wouldn't have it any other way...

Exactly. I'd be all "Oh thanks for reminding me" and then I'd pull out some mysterious white powder (creatine), look around, dump in 5g, pound it back, then smile at him with a crazed look.
You can get a T-shirt at bodybuilding.com that says "No, I don't take steroids, but thanks for asking." LOL!
Shifting gears a bit, but still on testing, how do they know this cyclist with the high testerone count didn't get it by looking at Stephanie Seymour in some old Victoria's Secret catalogs?
So, lately I've been a bit obsessed with getting back down to fighting weight (about 175-180) from my current 200#.
That comment, combined with listening to The FitCast yesterday makes me think I should just see how big I can get, just to scare everyone.
As it is, I moved from a sales position into an inner office position, so I've been thinking of shaving my head anyway (since I don't need to impress anyone).
The best one happend to me today. I was in my car and I was drinking a protien shake. Beside me was my gym bag. One of my brothers friends comes up and asks me if that drink was legal! hahaha. Somehow with a straight face I reached into my gym bag and pulled out my ziplock full of chalk and said;
"This drink is the least of my problems" hahahaha. It was great.
I think you should just fly into a rage the next time he even starts to talk. That will show him....
ROFLMAO!!! Yeah, overturn a few lunch room tables and bash in the vending machines with your bare fists!
Do people ever "drink" steroids anyway?? I thought they injected them. I know nothing about steroid use, admittedly, but I didn't think they were mixed into shakes. I guess John Q. Public thinks the Whey Protein shelf at Wal-Mart is the Illegal Supplements Shelf??
Sure, steroids are in shakes. That's what happened to Rafael Palmeiro, Justin Gatlin, Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa, right? Somebody snuck it into their shakes without their knowledge.

Oh yeah, that's right! Obviously this happened to Fayman as well. Some co-worker is juicing up his shakes in the lunchroom!
