I work in our County Jail. I work a 12 hr. shift.
One week I work 4 days, starting Wednesday, end Sat. Then I am off 4 days. The next week,I work 3 days, starting on Thursday, end on Saturday.
Then I am off 3 days.
I get up at 3:00 a.m. on my work days,do my neck stretches.I have had neck surgery (plate in),then a cervical nerve block, then physical therapy and that helps.
I have a 5 lb weight, working my way up to 8 lbs. Very carefully not to repeat my pain.

I work with my weights, jump rope, a few sit ups (up to 25). Push up, not push ups!

I just got some running shoes.

My goal is to work my way up, then hit it hard like I am in Basic Training.
I want to prepare myself to get on the streets and make it thru the academy!

I am 5'7, weight varies from 135 to 140 (the most I have weighed. Other measurements unknown.
Body fat I haven't a clue.

I want to flaten my stomach! I have a belly ring and would like to be proud of it.

Define my arms more.
Make a goal on sit ups.

Do pushups without a struggle.

Diet? Not really.

Home training, can't afford the gym right now.
I read the prison thread. True. I watch the inmates on cameras and they exercise everday.

I guessd that is it.

Motivation, direction, support, I need.

Can u help?

Thanks.

Let me start with some support. Congratulations on the goals and ambition. It sounds like you will make a wonderful contribution.

So what is your progress since you started this fitness program?

You just need to go out to "the slab" with all the inmates and work out every day. I know a guy who went in at a measely 145 pounds, when he got out in 2.5 years he was 190 and ripped! No steroids, nothing special with his diet (what they served there) and being bored and doing nothing but working out.

I am working on a home workout for my wife who has similar stats to you (except the belly ring, dang it!). When I get it all done I will email or snailmail you a copy. Hers is based on having very little equipment... I own a gym but she never gets to come in and work out with our three kids. Judging by your screenname I would assume that you also have children and that your time is very limited. This may be just the thing for you.

Not my choice, really. And I will never give her hell about it either. When she gets off work the very LAST thing she wants to do is fight a crowded gym and spend time away from her three rugrats. Especially since she is nursing (hope that's not considered TMI in a fitness forum).

Just wanted to say welcome--this is a GREAT place to get information, comraderie and the occasional kick in the pants when you need it.

It looks like you are in the same boat I was about a year and a half. You know you want to make a change and you're not sure how to quite go about it. You know it's exercise (but what type?) and good eating (what is that???).

It sounds like you've got a great start. Some thoughts:
1) As you increase strength, don't forget to continue your flexibility--stretching is your friend--don't neglect it.
2) Diet is important. Not going on a diet, so much, but watching more of what you eat and HOW you eat. I can give examples of things that have worked for me, if it helps.
3)Put your knees down for push ups. This will help you build your upper body more than just one regular-style. You will be doing them regularly, and soon.

JP and the others here offer what you need to get started. I am certain the program he will send you will be an excellent place to start, and grow. Come back often and ask LOTS of questions. We'll try to help any way we can.

Motivation, direction, support We have those in SPADES! Welcome aboard.
