Modified weight belt for plates? Help.
Have any of you modified your old weight belt into one you can hang the plates from on chins, etc? Currently I use a backpack with weight plates but damn if the thing isn't ripping out finally. I've got a belt hanging in the gym collecting dust so I may as well mod it.
I know I'll need some chain, but suggestions on how to set it up?
Thanks.

weight belt, chain and a carabiner.
Just loop the chain between you and the weight belt and then put the plates on and clasp the carabiner shut. Works pretty well.
Just be careful of the family jewels when more the one plate attached.

Does the belt have D-rings and/or metal loops for velcro?
I used a nylon/velcro one and picked up some chain and carabiners at home depot. I got a metal hoop (in the rope and chain hardware section) and looped the velcro through that and back onto itself. Now the chain goes from this loop to the built in metal loop/d-ring on the other side, attaching with carabiners.

If you get a long length of chain, the 'jewels" will be safer.

Oops. Sorry. Guess that would help to know wouldn't it? LD? ha. It's a leather belt with the metal "d" and double "pins?" for the different notches. I can't picture your diagram. I must be drunk tonight. ha.
Josh, that certainly sounds simple. I was actually meaning making it like the ones in the commercial gyms though. I can't picture one right now for the life of me, that's why I'm actually asking. I suppose your idea would work just as well. I may just try that.

My way only works with the nylon ones. I'll shoot you a picture, later.
Josh's way works with the leather ones. It might be more comfortable if you keep it as loose as possible so it hangs lower on the hips. Too tight and it will pinch skin from the weight.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll end up doing. Fairly cheap way of taking care of business. Besides, that damn backpack really cuts into the shoulders with all that weight. Ow! hahahaha.
Thanks brothers. I knew someone could help me.

GR, I know you don't want to spend money unnecessarily, but dip belts are fairly cheap. I think mine cost $25 w/ s&h.

I just took an old 2" leather belt, with a heavy buckle, and ran it through my weight belt. It's held multiple 45s without any trouble.
I couldn't stand the chain rubbing against my junk! Ouch!

Got nothun but love for you to bro.
I know, I should have just done a search on dogpile and bought one, however I visited Wal Mart last night and got the 250 lb working strenght dog chain and a carbiner. I got home too late to test it, but I will tonight when I do dips.
I'm all a tingle. :p

That's the ticket GR. Use DB's rather than plates . Lot less hassle.

I know it's too late, but here's what I did.
You can see the metal ring that I just slipped onto the strap. Then the velcro folds back onto the belt.
