Default Switching BB bench press for DB

Ive heard good things about TAP so i checked out the book and started the workout plan. I'm about to start phase 2(hypertrophy), which calls for BB bench press.I often workout alone or can't find a spotter. Is it OK to do a DB bench press instead?

I don't know that program, but I'd say that as long as you have the right dumbbells to fulfill the required loads and progressions, it should be fine.

Paranoid..

I've used TAP successfully in the past and I've stayed with BB's and workout alone. Don't be afraid to ask someone in the gym for a spot, they may need one in return some day, and it'll really help your development.

I always ask them and let them know 1. how many reps I'm shooting for and 2. that if I get stuck for them to slowly lift the bar so I'm still doing the majority of the work to get the bar back to the pins.

Now, if you're working out at home alone, then as long as you challenge yourself on the DB's, you'll be good switching them out.

However, in Phase 3, I would absolutely recommend that you stick to the BB for the heavy work.

If you have any questions on the program, feel free to PM me.

Oh, Test Advantage Plan, heard of that but never really looked into it. But hell, for 5 bucks I think I'll order it, I like Lou's writing, NROL kicks ass.

There should really not be a problem (though DB are harder since you have more of a stability issue), you could also ask for a spot , slightly incline your bench (though that slightly alters the exercise)

BUT be wise and don't do it without a spot.
