Troublesome Exercises
Mike Robertson and I have something pretty cool in the works, and I thought that the folks on this board would be a great audience off of which to bounce a question we've got...
What exercises give you a lot of trouble from a technique standpoint? That is, if you could have a coach right there watching you, with what lifts would you want help?
We've already got a list of 27 we'll be covering, but we want to make this really comprehensive; in other words, the sky is the limit. Thoughts?
Thanks!
EC

kneeling cable crunch: Sounds like a simple one, but the kneeling cable crunch. I'm sure I do it wrong. I end up practically lifting myself off the ground when I do them. I find it hard to believe that my abs are THAT strong. I put 150 on the stack and have to put my weight into it (I'm 190lbs) or I come off the ground.

I'm with Ogedei, you guys already covered those three and bent-over rows and bench press in your shoulder saver series.

Barbell rows. It's very difficult to check your own form because so much of the stabilization and form issues occur behind you... unless you look to the side at a mirror, and I'm not a fan of turning your head while lifting.
Also, Smith Machine curls. What happens if your bandana slips over one eye in the middle of these? It'd be nice to have a trainer there to straighten it back out.

Romanian Deads. . . it seems I've seen some different variations. I second the deadlift, front squat and squat choices as well. Cannot have too good of technique on those.

I echo the squat, front squat, and deadlift, but I'll also throw in there the bench press. I think a lotta people go for the elbows flared movement instead of elbows tucked.

Repeats but
deads, squats, bent over row (always have troble with this)
Addition: high pulls, as a person with limted gym experience (2 years) I am always most concerned about motions that utilize your back (since if you injure that you can really screw up your life). So these are he ones I am most concerned about.

Romanian deadlifts. I did a web search trying to find a video and actually found definitions and video clips are radically different.
Any of the explosive moves. The potential for losing control of the weight is enough to make me want to have an expert right there to catch any problems right away.

WTG Kevin.
Yeah! I keep forgetting about those. I don't think you and Mike have covered Oly lifts. Those are very important to get right due to the forces exerted on the joints and back.
