best workout time
what time do you prefer to workout ??
I prefer between 11pm and about 4am....
I've worked nights for a while
reason is that gym is not that busy then, not much traffic on roads and it's cool outside... also I don't have to wait for weights.
When I work my legs on the leg press, I usually use at least 26 of the 45 pound plates, more if I can get the plates and get the machine to hold them.
I have a farm south of Phoenix. Often I get more of a workout doing stuff around the farm than at the gym.
if you are in Phoenix or tucson and want to workout let me know analon1@yahoo.com

Some of the best workouts I've ever had were when I lived on a farm in Kansas. Bailing hay, milking cows and goats, weeding the veggie garden, chopping a hole in the ice in our pond for the horse during winter, running to the swimming hole 3 miles away, swimming very vigorously for a couple of hours and running back... It's a wonder I had any bodyfat at all.
For relaxation we'd go into town (Cherryvale) on the weekends and I would challenge anyone who would race me to a footrace in the park across from the Dairy King where I would spend my piddly allowance on cherry slush floats. Mm! Not to mention more swimming at our swimming hole, which we actually did 7 days a week during the hot months.
Welcome to the forums analon. BTW, don't do leg presses... Do squats.

The best workout days for me are days that I have nothing to do but workout. Sleep until I cant sleep anymore, eat a huge breakfast, wait for an hour or so and go. These are the days I break PRs.
I have to go after work often, but it sucks. My workouts loose so much intensity I find.

I too grew up on a farm. I ate more than the dairy cows we raised and worked almost every day since I was a kid. And the irony of it all is I was a tall skinny kid the entire time. Little muscle or fat to speak of. By the time I left home for university I was 6'2 and 155 pounds.

Lot to be said for us farm boys. I grew up on a dairy farm. Day would start at 4:30. Bring the cows in, feed and milk them, clean the barn, wash the milkers, feed the pigs, gather the eggs and feed the chickens, plow 40 acres, go to breakfast, then.....

forgot to mention....the best time to workout for me is first thing in the morning. If I don't make myself and my workouts the top most important priorrity of my day, then guess what....frequently doesn't happen. Too many time stealers and time wasters in my life. I get up and go to the gym when it opens at 5AM. Done by 6AM and the rest of the day I feel great.
If for some reason I skip the morning and think "I'll stop by the gym this evening"...that's just a pipe dream. Never happened yet. So I have learned my lesson. Me first, first thing in the morning.

I tend to be all over the board. Sometimes at 7amish, sometimes 10pmish.
It depends on when I find time.
And what JP said about squats. You'll have to cut the weight down for squats because you have the full weight on you (sleds you have maybe half).

Between 6 or 7am is the best time for me.
I like to have all my energy when I workout and I find that if I wait until the evening my workouts aren't as good quality.
And I second what JP said.....the leg press is poop and Squats #1

Fairly early in the morning. I lifted at 5:00 a.m. for years, but now that I train others, I lift during my first break with clients. But if I don't get it done fairly early in the day, it's not going to happen. Family will begin to need me and other life responsibilities get in the way.

I love lifting as soon as the gym opens which is 5AM on most days. It gives me a great sense of achievement knowing that I have got in a killer workout before most people are thinking about eating an Egg McMuffin. You feel like you can take on the world for the rest of the day.

I lift when I have the time... early morning on the weekends, at lunch or in the evenings during the week. It's all good for me.
Oh yeah, welcome!

I guess I'm just not a morning person, or I'm getting old. But at 5 am, the only place I want to be is in bed. And I'm usually too stiff to work out first thing when I finally do get up. I do have the occasional morning w/o, but it's not my favorite time of day.
I find the best time for me is early afternoon, around 1:30 - 3:00. I've gotten 2 or 3 meals into me by then, I miss the lunch-hour rush, so the gym isn't as crowded, my body's been moving long enough that it's feeling a bit looser.
2nd choice would probably be after work, but like a few others, it's sometimes harder to motivate myself to get to the gym after 5 pm

mid afternoon is when I perform the best.
I'm tighter than a frogs @ss first thing in the morning. Takes a few hours to limber\wake up to do anything noteworthy.

I swim for about an hour at 6:00 AM before work twice a week, but lift in the evenings. I occasionally lift in the morning on the weekends but that is rare and not my favourite time.

Don't forget to add in the weight of the sled. In my gym it's 135 lbs.
