Default PT Test Routine Advice

Goals:
1.5m run in 9:30 seconds
Pushups in 1min x 60
Situps in 1 min x 60

Current
run about 11min
Pushups x 40
Situps x 40

Time to accomplish = 8 months or under
Have access to open fields, a grassy hill, rubberized 400m track, *standard* gym (no rings or anything outside the bare basics)
********

How would you go about setting up a program to accomplish this without becoming a tub of jelly? This tends to come up every year and every year I tend to struggle with coming up with something that works well enough but doesn't really help with any athletic endevors short of accomplishing the PT test.

Any tips would be appreciated. I'm hoping Eric's manual will help (shipped today yay!). But in large it just seems like a bunch of random crap that doesn't really have any practicle aplication what so ever.

I did the HGM phase 1 before my final fit test- I had to do 1.5m run in under 9 min's when I tried it I was at close to 11 min, after the program and at the test I hit it in 8min 29 sec, pushups no idea I did 53 in one min but I'm light so it was easier, situps- try doing weighted cruches with some heavy weight , that way when you do the sit ups it will feel like a breeze, add reverse crunches to for good measure. It might work. But thats just my opinion and I'm no where near close to being a trainer

Gobbla, sorry to hijack, did you get email notification when your copy shipped or is there somewhere you can track the parcel? I can't wait for mine!

Have you considered some of Stew Smith's Navy SEAL workouts? He does pyramids with push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups. You may also look around the X Fit bulletin board for some info. I know that this question has been posted there several times.

ED> yeah, they'll send an e-mail when it's off. you might keep an eye on your spam folder and be careful because it's easy to delete by accident. It'll be from "Vervante Books Etc Customer Service"

Bill> I thought about the whole "SEAL\SWAT\PJ" thing, even checked out a special forces training page. The crossfit boards was deffinately a good call. Appreciate that one. I had thought about crossfit but didn't even occur to me to check the message boards!

Jen> I'm sure as hell not worthy!!! Anyone that doesn't even run to bust out with a 5:45min average for a mile and a half is a freaking GOD. I shall worship you...smear you with strawberry jelly and...nevermind...switched gears there without knowing

ALL...thanks for the help. In reflection and pondering on my bike ride home I have decided that I'm a little bitch and just need a decent general program *and work hard at it* and get off my ass to speed train now and then. I love you all, and goodnight!
