Default motivation problems

My rehab/rest whatever you want to call it for my SC joint is finally over. I feal structurally and painfree 100%. I feal moderate discomfort from time totime but nothing serious. NOw its time to get back in the gym but this has been my longest layoff in over 3 years. I went from at my prime 175, repping 340x5 on deads, 250x5 deep squats and 245x5 on bench. Now i find myself tipping the scales at a whoping 164 lbs with wet pants and rocks in my pockets. And my numbers are considerably dwarfed(185 squat, 260 dead, god knows on bench) as well as my capacity for work. I know it should come back quick and I have alot of hard work ahead of me but im having a very stressful time as of now, with alot of other factors in my life. Please someone post something, anything to keep myself motivated.

First thing, welcome back to working out. You're still a hell of a lot stronger than most people, so you got that going for you. And, you're right, it will come back quickly.

Not sure how you injured, then reinjured your sc joint, but you might ask for direction in a workout to get your body in shape to NOT do it again. If you haven't asked Bill Hartman yet, do so.

With stress in your life from other areas, the last thing you need is stress in or about your workouts. A preventative maintenance routine will do two things. 1, protect you, long term, and 2, make sure you don't injure yourself again doing something too heavy, etc.

You don't have to lift that heavy to gain muscle back. Muscle memory is a nice thing. A rehab workout and good eating will put some weight back on, then, soon enough, you'll be stronger and more prepared to really shoot up in size and strenght.

Get in the gym you lazy lump!

Congratulations on getting back in the saddle mate. Take it steady and you'll be ahead of your bench mark in no time!

I find that when I'm in a slump, the best motivation is getting back in the gym. I feel great after the workout. So if I do drag myself there against my will, it gets me pumped for the next time around. So, stop thinking about it and just go and do your best!

LD, I hurt it my senior year of high school at a wrestling tourny. kid's shoulder drove into my chest and broke my clavicle at the joint and it got popped in about 5mm, recently something i did, still not sure of it sprainned the joint pretty bad. The MRI couldnt tell what was wrong, just taht something was. My doc though is a genious, the guy was honestly in school for 30 years gettin every degree he could in the feild of sports medicine. He said the muscular developement i currently had helped keep everything intact and protected all this time and basically told me to get back to lifting to help ensure the same thing. I am only suposed to avoid heavey barbell presses without propper spotting, antyhing that could land on my sternum with large amounts of weight. Had a great night sleep last night and was sore all yerserday from deadlifts. I think those two things alone are helping me keep my head up high. That and my addiction to whole wheat tortillas.
