Default FitCast 11 Challenge Winners

As you heard on the FitCast, we got a great response for the Shake Challenge, and we had THREE winners this week:

Mountain Marc
Cappuccino
RockHard

Thanks to everyone who entered, and all of the shakes were excellent. We had a very difficult time narrowing it down to even three.

For the winners, please send your mailing address to my email, and I'll put a copy of Gourmet Nutrition in the mail. Cappy, I know you already have a hardcopy of GN, so we'll send you a t-shirt. Just let me know which kind you prefer, and what size.

johnk.williams@gmail.com

**And thanks to Gobbla for sponsoring a FitCast t-shirt for this week's challenge.

The winning recipes are below:

Mountain Marc’s Pumpkin Pie Butterscotch Cheesecake

Add the following in the blender
1 cup water
0.5 cup pure pumpkin, canned
0.5 oz ground almonds [(about 11) mine get grounded in the blender]
1 scoop ON Vanilla whey protein
.5 tsp pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon would work as well)
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
.25 cup lowfat cottage cheese
.25 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1 tbsp Butterscotch Jello Fat-Free pudding mix
Blend till smooth, then throw in 5-6 ice cubes and blend till the ice is crushed.
The nutritional information according to FitDay is as follows:
Calories 369
Protein 37
Carbohydrates29
fiber10
sugars
Fat14
saturated2
monounsaturated6
polyunsaturated4

Cappuccino’s Powderless Tangy Brown Betty Treat (yum!)
¾ c low-fat yogurt
¼ c (60g) cottage cheese (lowfat or FF)
50g apple (about ¼ of an apple) ( I used fuji)
50g banana (about ½ of a medium one)
1t flax seeds
1/2t cinnamon
16g (1/2 T) almond or peanut butter (or your favorite whole nut)
5-10 ice cubes, depending on how thick you like it
Splenda or Stevia to taste (I find it doesn’t need any—if pwo, use brown sugar)
Put all ingredients in blender except nut butter and blend until smooth. Pour into glass. Add nut butter. Save it till the end and it gets really cold on the bottom of the glass. Enjoy. Have a glass of greens plus or your fav veggie on the side J
Macros attached. If looking for more calories (guy version J ) use ½ cup or more cottage cheese. 20g protein with ¼ cup cottage cheese. Sweet enough without sugar or splenda. Still pretty high carb, so I’d say pwo, but carb sources might be suitable for anytime.

RockHard's
The Green Monster

Ingredients:

4 oz. water
1/2 cup egg whites (All Whites)
18g vanilla whey (Designer Whey)
2 tablespoons of plain, non-fat yogurt (Stop N' Shop brand)
1/2 tablespoon ground flax seeds
1/2 avocado
1 small red apple, cored
1/2 cup frozen spinach (I think frozen, rather than fresh, makes a significant difference)
1/2 tablespoon Splenda

Instructions:
Pour water, egg whites, ground flax, yogurt and whey into blender and blend. Core and chop apple, add and blend. Peel and chop avocado, add and blend. Add spinach and Splenda, blend. Pour it out and drink!

Nutrient Breakdown:

455 cals
39g protein

38g carbs
13g fiber
20g fat

3g saturated fat
5g polyunsaturated fat
10g monounsaturated fat

Yum!

One question.....Can someone explain the frozen vs. fresh spinach deal. I thought fresh was always better? Is it maybe less bitter or blends better?

I would imagine that the frozen is suggested because it probably blends better. The act of freezing and thawing causes alot of cellular damage so the spinach turns to mush when thawed.

At least that's what happens with strawberries:

Oh, and Congrats winners!

Just got home from a long weekend with the parents... haven't even gotten to download the episode... I'm a winner! Woooooo!!!

I must say, though, that the other two shakes look far more creative than mine... hmmm...

(By the way, I already have Gourmet Nutrition in both it's forms! )

*Just listened up to the Shake part... Ok, ok, so it doesn't taste like it Ben & Jerry's!!! Like Johnka said... it's an acquired taste. Seriously, once you've had a few, you start approaching them differently. It's not a dessert... it's a meal.

To not just the winners but to all who submited recipies, you all did an amazing job and I was very impressed with them. You should all be proud of yourselves!!!

RockHard do you want a FitCast T-shirt in place of the GN since you already have it?

I'm excited to try RockHard's shake. Sounds Supershakey! I like trying the non-conventional shakes. Heck, I even put garlic in one of my shakes but didn't submit for obvious reasons

What I really want to know is...

Johnka, did you really drink full size versions of ALL of the submissions? That would be one busy shake week! D

I made most of the shakes all in one go, so I significantly reduced the size of them. Particularly EdChap's "Orgasmatron", 900-k/cal whopper

Hi Johnka,

Would it be possible to have the submitted shakes posted on the forum? There are a few that I would love to try.

Hi all. Galya's husband here
The shake she made is actually good. and yes it IS an eye opener.
By the way. To pronounce it is is Gal, like my gal, plus ya, as in what you expect a german peasant to say when asked any question at all "Ya Ya"

I will be trying some of them!
I have subscribed to the fitcast too. Love it.

Sorry about the mispronunciation, Galya and Jonas! For some reason, I always read it as Gayla. I didn't realize that I was dyslexic
