as some of you might know i was working out for the fight club brad pitt look, but then i started playing football and it started interesting me alot so now im working for a body that is both good for football (runningback) and for looks, so i decided on Brad Pitt in Mr and Mrs Smith, in which he is a little smaller then in Troy, hes weight was 180 for the movie and he is 6' im about 5'10.5 and im trying to gain 30lbs in 9 month, you guys think its possible?( i wanna get to 180 (152lbs now)) and my second question is are wide chins (backhandfacing towards me) good enough to get a bakc liek the one in the picture below?
and in order to get obliques like in this picture (the one below) are sidebends good?

thank you for anyhelp
Hey fender,
When I saw the title I thought you going to settle for a second rate body. Glad you are still aiming high! LOL
pull ups (the chin ups you describe are probably the BEST exercise you could do. You should also add some bent over rows.
As far as the obliques, I am not sure. I think that is mostly genetic and if you do a lot of oblique type exercise you may only suceed in thickening your waist.
Good luck
Peter

Hey fender-i think 30 pounds in 9 months is possible for a growing teenage male if you work hard enough.
Last year i was 5'8" and 145 pounds. Now, i'm 5'11" and 170 pounds. I have grown 2.5" but i've also put on 25 pounds. I ate, lifted, and slept like a mofo, the summer especially. So, with hard work, dedication to your lifting, some sleep, and a LOT of good food, it's definitely possible. 9 months = 36 weeks so shoot for about a pound a week.

fender...i think you could definitely make the weight you want to. The thing that you have to remember is that Brad has a lot of trainers that help him get ready for each movie. You can talk to coaches and to the forum guys, but brad can talk to anyone and hire anyone to work specifically with him.
I think if you work REALLY hard and dont give up you can make it. Just work regularly and dont stop
good luck

hey guys thanks for the support because people at school have been telling me its impossible so your comments really helped me out in moral part of my training, so again thank you
Once you get a program down, going to the gym and working out is the easy thing. Eating 24/7 is the real challenge.
BTW, if you're looking for a football body forget Brad. Set your sights on someone like TO. He's big, ripped and a pro football player

First thing to get a Brad Pitt body is Brad Pitt genetics. I can eat right, work out at all the optimal times and have all the best trainers and I doubt I would ever get close, TO is definitely out of the question.
I do a damn good me though If you have that body type, great! I'd hate to see unrealistic expectations that lead to disappointment.

I agree, but what I'm saying is look at these guys and you'll get an idea of waht you need in football. While TO may have the most talent out of those 4 guys, I would have to say that Tiki is the best out of the 4 of them. And he's def. does not have the best looking body, just balanced.

True, but IMHO Brad Pitt is way too small for football. Most likely his body is all show and no go anyways. So if you're going to set your sights on someone to strive to look like, pick someone at the top of the game you're wanting to play Who knows, maybe you do have the genetics and all you need is the desire...

What are you trying to accomplish? You want muscles or a strong, effective body that you can use daily?
I've done a lot of work on my back, my waist has gotten larger a bit as has my upper back. I have a nice V but so did my dad. I had a really defined back when I was swimming/surfing/windsurfing daily.
I would be careful to always fall back on genetics. A Mr. Olympia needs genetics a lot more than a 180lb Brad Pitt. I think most people could probably get to a ripped (very low BF%) 180 if they really wanted to and worked at it.

Yes, you can do it. 14 weeks ago I was 175lbs. Today I am 209.5. My bf% has increased from ~12% to 14.7%.... completely expected considering I'm eating just shy of 5000 calories a day. I've added damn near 2" on my arms, 3" on my legs, and 4" on my chest. The only place I hold fat is my gut, in fact my legs and arms measurements (for bf) have gone down .
To the point, you can do it, but it is tougher than anything I've ever done. You have to lift with serious intensity, on the verge of overtraining. YOu have to stay focused and dedicated when everyone around you is not. You have to stay motivated and most important and toughest of all is you have to promise yourself to EAT all the time.
Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something. If you really set your mind to it you can. Trust me.
You may not want to go this route if you're wanting the lower body fat, but in order to add mass you need to add the weight and then cut off the slop.
HOpe this helps you out some. Good luck.
It's interesting, the notion of looking at someone and wanting to use them as a model. I don't think it can usually happen. Everyone's body if different. Someone's body might provide inspiration, but I, for instance, may never have TO's chest/pecs, or so and so's shoulders, since my body is not made that way and I have my own predispositions.
I bet more guys would be happier if they did the best with what they had, didn't try to model or compare to other guys, and worked on getting Angelina's body!
All I'm saying is that using someone else as a model is hard to do and that you should be careful picking a person instead of attributes like power, and speed. For instance I'm long waisted with a high center of gravity. That limits the people I should aspire to emulate. Even peck shapes are different.
I'm surprised no said to ask DOS what he would recomend for someone who wanted to play football. If you were polite I bet what you'd get would be worth the price of admission alone.

I agree with Deserve and Chris as well. sure, pick a great football player to be your role model. But, don't just try and look like them-pick out their attrivbutes that make them a great player and work your @$$ off to improve those.
For example, Tiki hits the hole hard and with force, he's a strong and explosive guy. Work on your explosiveness. Reuben Droughnes carries guys for 10 yards for fun. Work on your strength and your driving power. Brian Dawkins used to be awesome out of the backfield, work on your catching ability and the ability to turn it on upfield. Reggie Bush is a flat out playmaker and there is none even close to him. However, work on your change of direction cause he's awesome at that.
Dont pick somebody to model yourself on because of what they look like; pick them because of what they do good.

aight guys, its High School Football not College or NFL, lol if i can get down to running a 4.4 (now i run a flat 4.6) and weight 180 lbs 8% bf, meaing ill work my way up to 185 and hten right before the summer start cutting, i will be a good player.. its that simple for high school a 180lbs runningback is decent and will get me soem playing time.
I'd still ask Dos for an opinion. After all he is a Stregnth and Conditioning coach for a good college football team. I bet this question has been asked before. Start with searching for his old post and see if you can find some information that will help you be the best you the team has.

Seriously Fender, if you're going to put in the time and commitment of this at all you may as well go all out. You don't want just some playing time you want to be the startign tailback!
"Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile."

It doesn't matter if its pee wee football or the pros. Hell if i got up to 185, would that make me a good player? There's a lot more to being a RB than you think. You need vision and you need to do all the little things right. Find the hole, hit it hard, cut and move swiftly. I'm not sure about you, but i would never just want some playing time. For me, i play baseball, i want to play every pitch of every inning of every game. I want every at-bat. When i played basketball last year, i played about about 30+ minutes in each 40 minute game. I wasn't the best kid on the court, but i hustled on every play, played tenacious D, went for the rebounds, sacrficed my body. For me, it's about heart and playing the game. For you, you might be fine with going in every couple of plays. I guess it's an to each his own kinda thing.
Personally, I wouldn't go for 8% bodyfat. Football is a tough and physically punishing sport, so i'd probably aim for a 10-12% bf, which is where i'm about at right now. Also, it's really hard to shave off .2 seconds like that. Once you get down to that level, a 4.4 is tough. The fastest HS RB in NJ clocked a 4.3 and he's naturally gifted and trains like crazy. So, they're not much you can do about your 40 time unless you mechanics are way off. If they are, fixing them might help.
Like Keith said, what's the point of putting in the time and effort if you're going to do it half-assed? Honestly, you could be 190 pounds and the most muscular guy in school, but have a 140 back be better than you. You can't just think about size for a running back. Just like you can't think about a body type to shoot for, you gotta pick specific goals and then shoot for them.

I agree with Keith and Kevin. If you're going to go, go all out. It doesn't matter what level of competition it is from HS to the pros to a pick up game. Play to be the best you can be any and every time. If you approach everything in your life this way you are almost guaranteed to be successful.

No Keith, i haven't seen Kee-ayre. I was referring to Pope John's Jeremy Tucker, who from what i've heard was clocked at 4.3 and is the fastest RB in the state. I'm not sure if he is actually the fastest, but if hes not, he's sure all hell top 3. I also heard that Ryan Lindsey from Don Bosco Prep ran a 4.29 at an elite college combine. He's a WR. I got that off of joe defranco's site-defranco trains Lindsey.
