Muscle-up X 1,000!
Since starting crossfit I watch gymnastics with a whole different perspective.

I suppose what I was getting at is the naturalness of the fence climb or a tree climb. Even rings are an artificial training implement. Generally, adults won't find a fence high enough unless it's that wall on the military obstacle course. I couldn't do fences well as a fat kid, but the first time I did: whoo hoo! Superman!

I think a big difference is that when a kid climbs a fence in this manner he uses his feet, also. A muscle-up becomes fairly easy if you can push with your feet.

If he doesn't, his face will be right in the fence when he first jumps up.

That link works, thanks Brad.
I can't even fathom that level of strength to weight but I suppose superior genetics & training 6 hrs a day for 20 years has something to do with it

Brad, did you get your rings yet? How is the quality? Thinking of getting them, but since I am not at all familiar with the vendor, I wanted to see what your experience was. Thx!
PS: I knew you'd change the pic of your daughter in the other thread, which is why I didn't bring the pic over to my picpage. I only wanted to rib you, not cause you any real grief with your daughter. Just wanted to make sure you knew.

Kaiser: I just preordered the new rings. They'll ship after the first of the year. They will replace the current model, and cost a bit more at that time. Preordering now will get you a price $14.00 cheaper than the current ones, and they cost less to ship since they are lighter!

I am pre-ordering the new ones as well. I have some homemade ones that I occasionally use, but I am ready to give it up for the real thing, merry Christmas to me!
I can't do a muscle-up, but did 21 jumping muscle-ups during yesterday's workout, plus a few pratices before. Next time I might set up a bungee harness system for a more consistent assistance than jumping.

Well, I ordered the ones that were available a few weeks (?) back and THEN started hanging around on that discussion board Power Athletes Forum. That's when I learned that the NEW AND IMPROVED (and cheaper!) rings that Chris was talking about are coming out in January! So, I sent my first order back - it had just arrived! - and requested the new ones. So, no, I haven't actually tried them yet but the old ones were made out of metal and were painted whereas the new ones are all plastic. If I leave them outside for a few days, the plastic should hold up better and they should be lighter... if that makes any difference (?).
The vendor is very communicative and also runs the forum so he provides a lot of info via that medium. My experience so far is that he's a pretty straight up guy!
I'll let you know when I FAIL MISERABLY at my first muscle up!
By the way, are you freezing your fanny off in Chi-Town??? It's plenty cold here!!!

Where do you guys plan on using the rings?
Can you install them on trees? I'm considering where I could use them at my gym.
I'd like to hear some reviews of them before ordering.
