Default A section devoted to reviews of training and nutrition books and resources?

I wonder whether such a section exists (or existed) in this forum, as I have not seen it during the time I've participated here, and whether the people here, especially JP, would find something like that useful. If the idea has been proposed before and discarded, can I know why?

What I've seen are many isolated reviews, some brief, some extensive; perhaps it would be good to organize them, and the new ones that are posted, in a dedicated section of the forum.

I have a huge list of books to buy... two examples that come to mind are Everett Aaberg's "Muscle Mechanics" and Robert Behnke's "Kinetic Anatomy" books. Many people in the forum could find such books useful, and could benefit from reviews by other members and resident experts. For example, given Bill Hartman's affinity for extensive reading, perhaps he could publish a list of his favorite and/or recommended books, coupled with reviews (if he likes the idea and has time in his busy schedule, of course.) Also, in the interviews Eric Cressey has published so far in his newsletter, there has always been a "top-ten recommended books and DVDs" question... if experts like Bill and Eric are so concerned with reading and learning, then mine is a good idea! I could prepare a few (humble) reviews myself.

Let me know what you people think.

Why don't we try to make all those a part of one thread, and make it a sticky in the fitness FAQ section. We kinda have a lot of sub forums right now. It might not get all that much attention in a seperate section. Esteban, why don't you start the thread with a few reviews, and I will make it sticky. Plus, if some of you would do a search on all threads that have book reviews, I can merge posts/threads with this new forum software, so I can populate the thread.

That's a good idea JP. I have seen on other forums where they "grow" into too many smaller sections and it devides the audience.

Guys, you're welcome to post positive reviews of my books anywhere you'd like on the forum.

Oh, wait ... you were talking about OTHER PEOPLE'S books?

I don't think we allow those, do we?

Does this mean that I won't actually be able to fool people into thinking that I can actually read? Having a long book list was one thing, but actually being able to describe them? Geez.

I can help out a bit.

FYI, Behnke's book is a good one for anyone looking to get his/her foot in the door with functional anatomy.

Gotta link or want to post a review? You might as well get the ball rolling!

Lou you have so many books now that we could do just a Lou Shuler review thread.

JP, I understand what you say: It might not be a good idea to use a separate section of the forum. However, wouldn't it be better to have a dedicated thread for each book/resource? That way, many people could publish their reviews of a given book/resource (with the subsequent comments, questions, or related information) in the same thread, and everything would be more organized and easier to consult.

The threads could be placed in the FAQ forum, as you have asked, with a title like this:

REVIEW: Title of the Book or Resource

Or, if the maximum length of the "Subject" field allows, like:

REVIEW: Title of the Book or Resource (Authors, Edition*, Year)

* Would not be applicable for DVDs/videos, for example.

What do you think?

Eric: We are looking forward to any and all reviews you might want to share with us.

(And, thanks for the remark. I will definitely buy the "Kinetic Anatomy" book by Behnke.)

what about the other example you made: Everett Aaberg's "Muscle Mechanics" (2006 - second edition), is the training programs in there any good?
cheers!
