I would start them today.
Why not mix it up a bit.
Monday could be 4 sets of 6 reps
Wednesday could be 3 set of 8 reps
Friday could be 2-3 sets of 10-12 reps.
As long as their form is held, there is no reason I can think of to not progress them into lower rep programs. In fact, after 2 months of 10-12 reps, they should enjoy the change and see some strength from it.
