Default A good weight training program for a woman.

I have been consistantly weight training for a few months now. I do Homegrown Muscle routine. My faince was in search of a workout for women because she didn't take to the whole HGM thing like I did. Any suggestions?

Many people here will recommend the Turbulence Training For Women program by Craig Ballantyne, so I'll just go head and be the first one!

I'm hearing from a lot of women who're using Alwyn's New Rules of Lifting workouts and seeing great results.

Really, there's no reason why women need to do gender-specific programs.

The ones I see in women's magazines and books look like they develop the qualities women tend to have already (quadriceps that are overly strong relative to hamstrings and gluteals; flexibility that may be a sign of joint laxity; endurance that might mask poor fast-twitch muscle fiber development) while doing nothing to address the ones they don't have:

* upper-body muscle mass

* rear-body strength relative to the front of the body (quads and abs)

* fast-twitch muscle fiber development.

In other words, if you want to look and feel your best as a woman, lift like a man!

I completely agree with this point.
Most women are afraid to lift heavy weight because of the years of misinformation being fed to them about using high reps for toning.

I recently saw an article in a women's magazine that said squats were great for the glutes, and you can hold 5 to 8 pound weights for an extra burn. Women need to stop listening to these articles and start lifting some real weight.

just read your little quote on msn health about women and fitness. a lot of it had to with almost doing what many men do to maintain their weight and overall fitness level.

there was a quote from you and i've shown that article to my little sister and a few of my female friends.
