Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 36 – Football and Philosophy

Good morning, guys.
With football season in full swing, I thought it was about time for some old chestnuts from some of the football legends. It is amazing how much wisdom there was back in the time of some of these greats. There is not a lot of that going around these days. Wisdom has fallen by the wayside of the road to fame and fortune. I have thrown in a few other quotes as well, that just seemed appropriate to the topic.

The use of dirty tactics is an open admission that you are weaker than your opponent, that you weren't able to battle him on even terms. If there's any fighting to be done, fight with your heart and mind rather than your fists and mouth.
- - - - - Knute Rockne

The beauty of the game of football is that so often you are called upon to do something beyond your capabilities; and you do it.
- - - - - Dub Jones

What you do in the off season determines what you do in the regular season.
- - - - - George Allen

If what you did yesterday still looks big; you haven't done much today.
- - - - - Unknown

What does not destroy you, can only make you stronger.
- - - - - Friedrich Nietszche

Winning isn't everything, but trying to win is.
- - - - - Tom Landry

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will.
- - - - - Vince Lombardi

You've got to believe deep in yourself that you’re destined to do great things.
- - - - - Joe Paterno

There are many ways to become a winner. I think that it is more important to become a winner in life; then it is a lot easier to become a winner on the field.
- - - - - Tom Landry.

Anything is ours providing we are willing to pay the price.
- - - - - Vince Lombardi

Have a great week.

In Fitness & Friendship,
Mahler

Excellent quotes, Mahler. I'm hanging on to them as reminders. Thanks for posting.

Vince had so many good quotes, but this has always been one of my favorites.

Thanks again, John.

When you hit year-end 2004 you have to repost them all (Monday Motivators) as a recap (for those of us that never saved the ones they really liked).

Great post. Somewhere we need to make the connection with Hank Stram's "matriculate the ball down the field" with weightlifting.
