Default Floor bench press ?

I was doing floor press for the first time last night and I noticed that my right tricep would hit the ground before my left tricep every rep. I checked my grip width and it was ok. I narrowed it and went with a wider grip also. Does this mean I was doing it wrong, is one arm shorter than the other? I have had a some left shoulder problems in the past (tendonitis) Could this have something to do with it?

Are you right handed? If so, you might shifting the weight to your right a bit, making it go just a touch lower than your left. Or you could be compensating for the shoulder problems by shifting the weight over. How's your shoulder now?

Sounds very much like your previously injured shoulder just doesn't have the same range of motion, and so of course your dominant arm would take up the slack.

Have you worked with dumbbells recently? Bill Hartman surely has the best answer, but my first thought is dumbbell pullovers (for range), dumbbell bench (even out the arm strength a bit) and cuff work (left one is probably in need of attention).

I don't know where these would all fit into your personal routine, but maybe look into it.

Hope that helps.

Steve yes I am right handed mainly but I shoot hoops with my left hand due to shattering my right elbow in a football game in highschool. I didn't want to stop being active so I switch to my left hand for bball. It works pretty well because I can shoot with either hand. My shoulder feels pretty good these days. It hurts a little when I do db flyes and shrug my shoulders up but nothing terrible. I am going to video tape myself next time and see if I am favoring the right side.

Rock your probally right about the ROM. I do the majority of work with db's. I actually started doing pull overs the workout before last. It probally is the cuff. I am going to add in some rotation work and see if that helps.

Yeah, and if you just started the pullovers (with dumbbells, right?) then give it a few weeks.

I will give it a couple of weeks and see how things go. Yes they are done with dumbbells.

I just saw a guy doing the floor bench press at the gym today. Is it done this way just for people who can not keep their back flat on the bench?? I usually do them on the Physioball. Great stability exersice!!
