Default Possible odd problem concerning lower body movements.

Hi, everyone. This may sound a little out there, but I'm just trying to get some feedback on a problem I seem to have stumbled upon. It seems that my left leg is slightly longer than my right. I can notice it if I look carefully while hanging from a pullup bar or dip station etc. I kind of feel like that may be causing some problems on deadlifts and somewhat on squats. I'll notice in the mirror sometimes that my left knee will buckle in some on the upward movements on dl's especially. I tried sumos for the first time about a week ago, and my session yesterday I did with a wider stance than my normal dl stance to try and keep my knees lined up with my feet. Now i feel a little pain in my left hip where the leg meets the pelvis.

Basically Im wondering if anyone else has noticed this in themselves. Is it as easy as say, adding a small piece of mat or padding under my right foot? Is that crazy? Am I? I don't think I'm imagining it at all, but any other ideas as to why this happens would be most welcome. Thanks for the feedback in advance.

see a doctor. if it is noticibly shorter it could cause problems with your hip. see if you need an orthopedic...thing.

It could be that your leg is truly longer than the other in which case youd need to go to an ortho or podiatrist to make inserts for your shoes. On the other hand, it could be that your hips and/or spine are out of alignment so you would need to go to a chiro for an adjustment.

Same as what gobbla said. in the longrun, it could cause you problems in your everyday life. bad for your knees, your back..

I've known a couple of people who have that particularity without ever having any sickness provoking it. it's the same as having one foot a little longer than the other.

You're lucky you caught it before it caught you.

Wow, I didn't realize it could be that big of a health risk. I think I will make that appointment. Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll let you know if I'm in lines for some Forrest Gump shoes.

Naaa no one will notice your shoes, my grandma's right leg is 1/2 inch shoter than the other and you cannot tell. So no worries on the forest gump shoes. You'll feel way better in the long run!!

Definetly see a doctor - he will most likely send you to a specialist to get orthotics. I just went in to get my knees checked, and it turns out that one leg was a 1/4" longer than the other and was causing problems with my knees and back. I have since got custom orthotics which have helped greatly. They aren't cheap (around $250) but well worth it - if the guy is good, he'll correct other things wrong with your feet also, i.e. pronation, etc.
