Default 4-week Personal Training Certification for $49.99

How about this? I'm curious to know what trainers certified by the likes ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE, and ISSA, and this forum's members and resident experts have to say about this. I'm alarmed by the possibility of considering oneself a Certified Personal Trainer after just "1-4 weeks depending upon how hard you work"!

"How much does the certification cost and what does it include?

You can buy the Personal Trainer Certification at a special offer price of only $49.99 which includes the indepth courseware and exam fee. This is the best value for money personal trainer certification from any company available till date."

"How do I get certified?

The process of getting yourself certified is very simple. Buy the ExpertRating Personal Trainer certification for $49.99. Log in to your ExpertRating account using your password. Go through the personal trainer courseware (which could take you from 1-4 weeks depending upon how hard you work) and take the certification exam at your convenience. You can take the exam within 1 year of buying the certification. The result of the exam appears as soon as it is completed, and your certificate is mailed immediately."

"What is the exam like?

The 40 minute exam is based upon the courseware that is provided along with the certification. If you have gone through the courseware properly you should not have a problem clearing the exam. The exam consists of multiple choice questions from all chapters of the courseware."

I'm more concerned about the average person looking for a trainer. They see 'certified' and assume the certification is good and the trainer actually knows what they're doing. There is absolutely no way that this would make a compitent 'trainer' in a week...

Steve, that's my concern as well. I don't think that the general public is aware of industry efforts such as NCCA-accredited axaminations and the NBFE, which attempt to establish a minimum competency level among professional trainers, and confront these dubious, dangerous one-week certification programs.

I looked around at qualifications over here. In one weekend I can get certified as a strength and conditioning trainer. Level 2 requires 1 years experience at STATE level professional sports coaching. Didnt make sense to me. They teach you how to make programs/etc but there just cant be time in there to teach you the stuff to teach other people (i.e., how to do the lifts/etc). Scary stuff.
