Have not had to do rehab, but I use external rotations as part of my maintenance and have had good luck with my shoulders having had some problems in my youth.

I played alot of volleyball back in college and from time to time did some PT with a coach for my rotator cuffs. External rotations were a staple but as with anything add some variety to them. You can do them standing with a db and your arm at 90 degrees, you can do them on a bench with your elbow supported on your knee and you can do them at a cable station in a couple varieties. Sorry but I don't know too many other moves for this but doing the same ones with variety is a plus with any move.

Sounds like you want prehab, not rehab (make it so it wont get hurt as against make it better after being hurt).

Cracking the Rotator Cuff Conundrum is good. Robertson also posted an article on T-Nation with a bunch of other shoulder exercises for the rotator cuff and others as well. Cant remember what its called.
