I finished my first week of BOM Phase I - intermediate. As expected, a humbling experience!!! The thing that is the most humiliating is the final exercise in each of these workouts. A conventional lift that comes after a series of exhausting exercises. I thought I had a clue about how much weight I could manage in those final exercises... well, I didn't! LOL. The best example is bench press in Workout 1C. My one rep max is ~205-210. The last exercise calls for 2 sets of 10 standard bench presses. For the first set, I tried to use 150. I think I got 2 reps. LOL. For the second set, I backed down to 135 and managed a whopping 7 reps. When I went to take a shower afterwards, I could barely raise my arms, and I am very sore 2 days later (just in time for Workout 1A again!).

At least I workout at home in my basement and am only embarrassing myself in front of the cat!

Rock on! Yeah, IK kicked my ass in BoM, and is currently kicking it in Limping.

Have fun!

I finished the Int. Workouts in July, it is a great program. Wile at times it can be very humbling, in the end I made some great progress so rewards are at the end.

I have recently started the Advanced Program and it appears to have the same effect on both body and ego.

Yeah, I've done Limping, Superstrength, and the advanced versions of those previously, back in 2002-2003. But it had been about 18 mos. since I had an Ian King experience. I think I repressed the memories!

It's been about 18 months since I did SS and LL - I've been considering doing SS again or trying BOM - I'll keep your reaction in mind

Dave,
So, now you know what I have been talking about. I finished Intermediate earlier this year and am in my last weeks of Stage 2 of Advanced. The man is not human.

I'm going to start the beginner program as soon as I'm done AC's Afterburn in 4 weeks. Anyone know if Beginner BoM is also good?

I did BOM beginner earlier this year. Since I was a "beginner" I had no frame of reference but I enjoyed doing the workouts and did get some good gains from it. I'm half way through BOM intermediate now and this program definitely pushes you far more than beginner does...but I would think that's the whole point If you are considering the beginner program then go with that...do not try to push yourself into intermediate as you would most likely get discouraged and perhaps even quit it...don't what THAT to happen. Have a good one.

I didn't like phase 1 of the BoM beginner workout - too much circuit training; I didn't feel like I got to target any muscles enough.

But I just started beginner phase 2 this week, and I'm Lovin' It!(c) There's finally a split between upper and lower body. The lower body workout is primarily single-leg exercises (King deadlift, single-leg squat, lunges, etc) that are very humbling. The upper body is fairly straightforward, though, for example supersetting bench press with seated cable rows. It's still a really hard workout, though. And it's much more focused than the initial stage of the program.

I give the workout two thumbs up. And let's not forget that the book it's found in is a pretty darn useful reference for muscle physiology, too!

They're talking about the workouts in the Book of Muscle by Ian King and Lou Schuler.

You can find a link to order it from Amazon at louschuler.com.

I've been lifting for around five years, so I consider myself fairly experienced. Do you guys think that BOM Intermediate would be good for someone like me trying to add about 10-15 pounds of muscle and increase strength also?

I have heard a lot about Ian King and am really interested in learning more. Unfortunatly, I currently have no way to get any information about BoM, limpimg or other Ian king workouts (I only have internet access at work and the administrators blocked all the links in the training faq page). I was wondering if I might be able to pick these plans up at the local book store?

@BGS
Sure thing boss. I picked mine up at a local "Borders".

@Bamma
At least you kept weight on the bar. By the last set of shoulder press (the 6sec decline) our little group drew quite the cackles from the rest of the gym...sitting there all straining and groaning, one side up further than the other, blood viens buldging in the forehead...lifting the bar...well TRYING to lift the bar to be specific

T-mag has a bunch of his articles, if you can stand the search engine.

Thing is like he says he cant get to t-mag to read them.

Gobbla is right, you should be able to find Book of Muscle at most big book stores, or get a friend to order it off amazon for you if you dont have access to there. Well worth the read for the information on muscles as well as the workouts.
