I know that carbs fuel your workouts and help in building muscle... so, my question is when to eat carbs and "extra" calories. Should it be right before and right after the workout? If you work out around noon, does it do any good to eat carbs at the end of the day (9pm, 10pm)? Or, should I have my carbs before and after the workout and avoid carbs later in the day?

Thanks!

From what I understand, carbs should be eaten the most in the morning and be lessened throughout the day. Since you workout out midday (as do I), the post-workout meal would be the last good portion of carbs.

I have also read that protein and low doses of good fats are the best alternatives for night & later day snacks.

go to
http://www.johnberardi.com/articles/nutrition/ and read as many as youd like. make sure you read the science of nutrient timing part one and two. from reading many of those articles i have learned that your carbs should be consumed 6-8 hours after working out, as well as during your workout (if you do that, some people do some people dont) and many people will tell you to have some carbs before your workout for added energy. any other times should be no carb or low carb meals. that is just a very very basic overview, the articles will explain why and what and when and how and all that. hope this helps

You should try to have most of your carbs in the 6 hour window before and after your workout. It might be a good idea to have some carbs for breakfast too.
