In a word - awesome! I've worked out on it two days in a row (against recommendations online) and am pretty sore. I sweat my rear end off in a fifteen to twenty minute workout. I even bought 16 oz boxing gloves and wraps. I skip for a warmup/cooldown and I'm planning to add rope work when I can still stand.

Danny's (DKing) strongman experience had me wondering if I should check out a gym and see if I'm a budding thirtyfour year old amateur Seriously, though, a noncompetitive sparring regimen would inspire me to be better conditioned, lose weight, and work out consistently. What could be better? Well, at least until I get my bell rung

NoMo-I would highly recommend checking out a boxing gym if you are serious about getting in shape.

And I wouldn't worry about the age factor.I'm 30 years old and working towards competing as an amateur in the light-heavyweight division. It isn't about age, it is about intensity and commitment. If you have the juice to hang and bang with the young guys, do it.

Even if you aren't looking to compete, boxing will get you into terrific shape.I typically lose 4-5 pounds in sweat during a 90-minute session and I find the gym to be a huge motivator for me to push myself and go beyond what I thought I could do.

Whatever you choose, good luck to you.

Hitting a heavy bag is a hell of a workout. Its brutal. You should train strongman though. That would be way cooler still . I am not sure what the guys schedule will be after this weekend (there is a contest in Crystal, should be awesome) but before this it was every saturday at 11 oclock. He lives really close to you too in Otsego.

Sorry for the tangent, good luck with boxing man!

Danny

Yeah, Danny, you almost had me with that great write-up. The problem is that I'm fat and it's now my No. 1 priority to lose it before I even worry about strength. Also, reading Men's Fitness' Philipi and all the injuries he says he's had... well, doesn't sound very smart for this point in my life I looked into adult football (growing big-time in Minnesota), but backed off for the same reason. Are you going to that Crystal competition? Maybe I'll join you...

Matt, definitely keep us informed at how you are doing. I've had two days of total experience, so I was only half serious. I might just check it out, though. I'll probably NOT do it competitively due to the same reasons as Powerlifting, football, and strongman (I'm too pretty).

I'm the kind of person that gets major league hyped about stuff and then six months later, I move on. My challenge is to always be hyped about SOMETHING fitness related and I'll succeed. I wonder how many people have deadlifted 350 lbs (all I own) AND run a marathon?

Keep the strongman in mind for the future, its pretty fun. I am going to be at the Crystal comp helping out loading plates, resetting implements, and doing whatever else they need. But you should come it sounds awesome. Here is the contest website: http://www.mplsstrongman.com/index.html

Thats pretty impressive deadlifting 350 and running a marathon. Now way in hell could I get a marathon. Way to go man. Kick ass with the boxing.
