Death by Bodyweight

Hey everyone, The link above is that routine made by Ian King for people that have no access to a gym or proper equipment. And heres my problem: Ive been going to the gym for about two months now and I cant afford to go anymore. So Im going to have to cancel my membership right now. So in place of doing the Big 5 I was doing, Im goin back to this workout (which I was doing before I joined the gym).

So what Im asking is: How long can I stick with doing this routine before I become adjusted and its time to change again? And at that time, is there any other workouts that fall into this category? Any comments are welcome and any advice is appreciated. Thanks for the read -Seth

If you can afford a set of dumbbells you could do workouts for the next year easily.

Typically a body weight only routine is good for about six weeks, then you'll need to change the exercises as a minimum, but you'll eventually get too strong to get a workout with just body weight.

Look into buying a set of cheap dumbbells. You should be able to pick up a decent set fairly cheap.

First of all thanks for the reply. And second of all, what do you mean by "change the excersizes as a minimum"?

How do I know if A cheap set is a good pair? The reason I ask is because I can get a set of adjustable dumbells up to 40lbs at my local Wal-Mart. I know, Walmart. Thats why I ask.

The body adapts to anything you do.

So - you need to change the sets, reps, load, rest periods, order, and exercise selection regularly.

You may be able to stay with bodyweight exercises but you'll need to change something. So eventually. without additional loading - you'll need to at least do different exercises (hence my comment).

Powerblocks are the mercedes benz of home gym sets. But they are a little more expensive.

But the WalMart pair ? If it weighs 40lbs and seems solid enough (ie you won't drop the weights on your head) - they'll be fine. Weight is weight.

Have you put any thought into something along the lines of this?

I've been bouncing in between the two and feel pretty good about it for the most part.
