Greetings I'm from Mexico and I really want to lose weight and to get in shape, geneticaly my family is robust so for me is more dificult to lose weight so here I'm asking for help
1. Diet is a key part in losing weight. I would suggest reading some articles by Dr. John Berardi(http://www.johnberardi.com/), who is pretty much know as the nutrition guru. Also you may want to check out Dr. John K. William's [Johnka] website (http://people.smu.edu/jowillia/).
2. Get a good routine and stick to it! Don't quit because you don't see results in 2 weeks. The best results always take time...Personally I would suggest Turbulence Training for Fat Loss by Craig Berardi (http://www.turbulencetraining.com/).
I could never lose weight if I lived in Mexico. I have been on a pretty strict diet, then I went to Juarez for two days and did nothing but eat. I probably ate 10 tortillas a day.
By the way, anyone who bought Johnka's recipe book, was there much Mexican food in it?
Also, I hope I don't sound rude but I don't believe that certain families are geneticaly overweight. I think that families have learned different eating habits and that's why many times you see all members of families overweight.
Hey Marine, you're probably right about the genetics to an extent, but everyone has the power to overcome the obsticle. Also, I think a lot of America's weight issues stem from a lax FDA allowing foods and business practices that offer horrible nutrition. Ramen Noodles at 12 cents a package, as well as dorritos, and taco bells total profit on trans fat are examples of cheap, common, and popular foods that destroy a persons ability to keep on a good diet.
I can see how genetics can be somewhat of a larger obsticle for a very small amount of people; however, I think that genetics is highly overstated. Many people lay blame on genetics in order to place blame on something other than themselves and thier self discipline.
I could agree with 3-5 percent, but no higher than that. I don't believe that 1 out of ten people are victims of thier genetics.
If im not mistaken, I think its more to do with lifestyle (as marine is saying), and then wether your meso, ecto..or endo. I mean ive seen before/after pictures of endos with poor lifestyles and the changes are dramatic compared to say, lazy mesos.
Oh wow, I spent 16 years in Wellington, then moved here to Wichita for the last 8. Just starting to get things in my life straightened, and the first is health. New diet, starting a work-out, better job. This is a great community and it's amazing to wichitans found their way here.
once again genetics range from 5-40 %. more than 20 genes have been linked to obesity. Genes influence body size, shape, fat distribution, and bmr. Research suggests a genetic component however, hereditary influence must be balanced against the contriubtion of the environment. The tendency to become obese could be inherited, but the expression of this tendency is affected by environmental influences. Take home messages is gene's are not destiny. lifestyle choices remain the cornerstone of weight management.

You can repeat yourself until you turn blue. I don't agree with your statement. You can find hundreds of conflicting reports on any topic you want.
If you followed researchers findings on the negative effects of eggs then you would have changed your mind at least 20 times in the last 10 years. Just because you read something doesn't make it true.

Okay, I'm guilty of just skimming this thread but, in doing that, I didn't see any disagreement. Sounded like everyone was leaning towards the notion that, whatever genetic limitations there might be, anyone can make improvements. To whatever degree they may/may not exist, that should never limit anyone from trying to be the best that they can be... oh wait, sorry for the Army plug, MarinewithEgo!
