Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 58 – Walking the Walk
I’m writing this one from a hotel room after an Easter weekend out of town visiting with relatives. The major activity for the last four days has been eating and talking. And then eating again. I am suffering withdrawal symptoms as there is no fitness center at the hotel. Not so much as a treadmill. Damn. I hope all of you guys that celebrate it had a great Easter weekend. Spring is just about here, although mother nature is toying with us again and taking her good old time.
I found this little story which has a religious bent to it, but actually applies to any area of our lives where we seem to say one thing and our actions send a completely different message. I found a little of myself in here and it really made me think.
==========
A stressed-out man on a busy boulevard was tailgating another car. Suddenly, the light turned yellow and the guy just in front of him did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgater hit the roof, and the horn, screaming in frustration as he missed his chance to get through the intersection. As he was still in mid-rant, he heard a tap on the window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered him to exit the car with his hands up. He took him to the police station where he was searched, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a cell.
After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and opened the door. The man was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with his personal effects. He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping the guy off in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'What Would Jesus Do" bumper sticker, the 'Follow Me to Sunday School' bumper sticker and the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk. Naturally, I assumed you had stolen the car.
====================
How many times do we walk around spouting one thing and then our actions say just the opposite. Yep, I think I have done that a few times. And, how many times have you seen this in other situations. Look around. Are you talking the talk and not walking the walk?
Have a great week, guys.
