Even though I think of myself as a BB, since I am defintley not a power-lifter or training for stongman competitions. I enjoy watching strongman competitions on ESPN. It's just fun seeing hyuggge guys pulls trucks and squats boulders.
Guys what I think is cool is how all of them kind of overlap each other. Like one type of sport is can be trained using all the other styles, you know? Training for strongman you can benefit by using powerlifting and olympic lifting and *gasp* some bodybuilding to hypertrophy say your triceps or something. Atleast thats what I've come to believe so far, correct me if I'm wrong. I think it's also cool how a lot of our posters have varied interest like this, that means we can all benefit even MORE from each other, awesome.

I think that to train for each sport (except stongman) requires a pretty different approach. For strongman you can be a badass PLer or OLer and still do well if you practice the events. You can definately tell which athletes have which background. The PLers laugh at the squatting and deadlifting events, whereas the OLers generally own on log and speed events. This is my observation on the heavyweight prolevel, and Im not sure how well that holds in the amateur and lightweight pro levels.

I think it's cool that they don't *know* exactly what they're going to do. Might have a pretty good idea but untill it's time to move something heavy it's a bit of a mystery. That's just bad ass to me. Tack on the endurance factor and it's a great show.

What? [/quote]It's my impression that strongmen competitions will differ between events and weights so that their isn't a real way to train to win the compition perse but the contestants have to be good at a multitude of events.
For instance...chances are their will be a squat-like event. Are they going for max weight or max reps at a certain weight?
