Okay, it has been a VERY long time since I did any sort of real exercise and now, I just joined the track team.. Well yesterday, we ran about 2 miles... Okay I can kinda handle that, but at the end im almost puking... Then we come to a hill, do you know what do, we do sprints up this hill.. 15 times up jog down... Except I did about 5 while everyone else did 15... The thing is after like 2 I almost fell asleep in the snow I felt like I was going to hurl... I'd wait a little while and do another, etc..

Now, I don't concider myself an out of shape person, but I might be.. I we had to sprint with other kids and I am one of the fastest kids there when im acctually moving... but stamina wise I cannot keep up..

What's my problem, and why is it these kids seem to beable to go so much longer.. It was the first time in a long time that I ran, and the coach said give it a week and a half and work thru the pain and i'll catch up to them... True?

One more thing, after we finished doing the sprints we had to walk back to the school, and my calfs cramped up SO bad, my feet pointed straight out, and I couldnt bend them back with my hands, that has never happened to me before, and my calfs
are REALLY sore today...Anyone know what the deal with this is?

Just looking for some explinations thats all...

Yeah, it is just going to take a bit of time. Hill repeats are hard for everyone, espically someone who hasn't exercised in a VERY long time. You should expect to be sore following a new exercise regemin and doing it with anything more than moderate intensity, that will pass quickly too. You described exactly what I would expect to happen. Adaptation is quick and powerful for the human body.

I feel your pain, literally. The last time I ran regulary was for wrestling in high school about eight years ago. Since then, I only did free weights and sprint training. Some recent events prompted me to take up endurance training again. I'm only ten days into it, and it's kicking my butt (when I'm not sitting on it), but if you've done any kind of endurance work in the past, it should come back to you fairly quickly albeit painfully. Expect at least a month of adaptation (and did I mention pain?) Good luck.

BTW, I have to ask. What's her name that would convince you to join the track team?
