Guys, although I have no authority to do so, I'd like to welcome you to JP's fitness board. Those of you who came from the Men's Health board, I'd like to welcome you twice.
A few rules:
1. Lots of experts post on these boards. All of them know a lot more than me about training. So in the case of conflicting advice, whoever has the most children wins the argument.
And if JP and I disagree (we each have three kids), whoever has the least hair gets the sympathy tiebreaker vote.
And that would be me.
2. All questions are welcome, but these are a few topics you may want to avoid:
* Aerobics are important for fat loss.
* Humans can get by on less than 40 grams of protein a day.
* One set of a strength exercise is just as good as three or four.
* "Hey, read any good diet books lately?"
3. JP runs a tight, smoothly functioning, flame-free set of forums. But sometimes interpersonal conflicts arise, and it's hard to figure out who's right or wrong. In those rare cases, final arbitration will be handled by Mr. Cosgrove in Human Resources.
I'm an MH convert. Got sick of of all the tech problems, blah, blah, blah. I've checked out these boards before, but haven't posted yet. So Hello everyone. Hope to learn alot.

Although I have no authority to do so, let me plug Mr. Schuler's (he, elder than I, of the little hair and multiple children ) own site: www.louschuler.com As far as I know, Adam doesn't have his own site yet...but he has his own magazine, so I guess that balances out.
What's up with the migration from MH? Something happened there?
Lou and Adam and Bill, I am going to be posting questions about carbs and endurance training, intertwined with fat loss. The purpose isn't to start an argument, but to address my own situation. I'vr become a turncoat for the summer, stopping lifting (a bad idea) and riding my bike for long periods at a time (I enjoy it immensely). I've got to address my bodyfat issue and the carb consumption soon because I am distraught that this late in the season, I am carrying as much fat as JP used to.
Finally, a shameless plug for the Biking subforum and perhaps the most grueling athletic event in the world: GO LANCE!! If you have any interest in biking, visit us there.
what if someone has fewer kids, BUT also has less hair?
BTW, picked up core performance last nite on your advice, Lou, and started reading it. I think I'm gonna like it a lot. Flexability is one of my weak spots, so I can't wait to get started on it.
I am also a new member but I have been cruising the site for over a year so I don't necessarily feel like a newbie. I remember JP stirring up the t-mag site with his posting on physio-ball squats and such (even though that was more through the MH site).
Lou, I posted a question over on the MH that had something to do with BOM but didn't get a reply so I thought I would try here, if that's okay.
1. I have added a few moves like stiff-legged deads to the ones that I already do that require grip strength. My issue is that my grip strength is lagging behind what I can lift. Should I add in some forearm exercises on a light day or give them the day's rest to recover from the other lifts?
2. For the clean pull shown in BOM should it be one complete movement or is there a pause between the standing position and the finish position?
Thanks,
Mike

Yep. For me it was Mahler. I had been noticing lots of tech problems. I'd benefited so much from MH board. So when I found out of JP, I realized there is no reason why not to join.
And i want to encourage everyone to protect and nurture this fragile and enormously valuable resource (a message board with interesting questions, genuine posters, and an extraoridinarily top-flight group of expert advisors).
To understand how valuable this is, all you have to do is check out the Men's Fitness site (what the heck is going on over there?!?! The attitude and nastiness is repellant). Or Men's Health (the Roman Empire of message boards).
Thank you, JPF for maintaining this terrific site and to all the "heavyweights" (Lou, Adam, Alwyn, Johnka, Mahler, etc. )who are so helpful to all of us!
I just want to echo some of the positive comments that have been made about this forum.
It has been a great resource for me.
Like every one else I really appreciate all of the experts and others that take the time to post on this forum and other forums.
I first attempted weight lifting when I was 16 but failed miserably because I had no clue about routines and diet. I have now been lifting consistently for 5 years but still did a lot of things wrong. Since I started visiting the MH board and this board I have learned a lot and made a lot of changes. I have learned more in the last 4 months than I did in the prior 5 years of lifting. I still have a lot more to learn. I'm pointing all of this out because I wish I had access to something like this when I was 16, I know it would have made a big difference.
Hello everyone, I haven't posted much here, but I have lurked for awhile. JP is as nice and genuine as a guy can get. As well as full of knowledge. Along with the rest of the experts here, I would say this is the place to post. I would like to say congrats to everyone for finding and converting to this forum, good luck with your goals. Now if I could just get DC over here.
I can't figure out whether I am a revolutionary or just revolting.
Lou,
This is a great way to beef up the interest in this site.
I am not deserting MH but will be posting here more frequently. You can't go wrong with the talents that are making this forum their home. I know far less than you but do have more hair but no kids, so lets just say my advice is suspect.
Welcome to all the new guys and to the transplants. It will take me a while to learn the new screen names and identify them with the old MH forum names but it's good mental training for a bastard like me.
In Fitness & Friendship,
Mahler

Hello, im new here as well. I was at MH to but it seems to be slowing down there so ill be reading and maby even posting at this site for a while. Ill still use MH as well but this will be like a back up site for me.

I'm not THAT new here, but I haven't been posting much (anywhere) lately.
I'm really glad to see a board like this, where there is little interference from magazine industry politics to the free flow of ideas and information. Thanks JP, and thanks to all you guys who are here spreading the knowledge.
I too am a fairly recent convert to JPF, although from references to it from others over at MH the last few months, I have been watching the forums. Since the seeming mass exodus from MH, will be here more often, thanks to Mr. Mahler
Thanks for the welcome all.

Wingsfan, sounds to me like you had this guy back on his heels, and he just started slinging mud. He had no proof to back up his ignorant argument, and was just trying to make someone else look dumb, when all he was doing was making an ass of himself. I'm on your side on this one, I have to say, what a douche.

Thank you for the double welcome. I don't know if I'm a total convert, but it's a pleasure to see the familiar names here. The MH forum feels desolate and seems to be lacking the vibrant discussions that first attracted me. So here I am.
Does JP have a magazine I can subscribe to?

I came from the MH Fitness Forum.
Hey everyone, I am a chronic lurker, although I posted a question recently on here. Anyhow, I learned everything I needed to lost 50 pounds 2 1/2 years ago by lurking in various message boards (here, MH, etc.) and I attribute the success I had in losing it, keeping it off, developing some muscle, and eating properly (no more doritos for breakfast, sigh) to the hundreds if not thousands of strangers on the internet spilling their knowledge for nothing other than altruism...
I am usually too busy to sit down and post, but I feel that if there is anywhere on the ner worth posting its here. Thanks to everyone who contributes, and to the countless anonymous people who helped me make changes for the better!

Mahler, as for you, let's go with "revolting". And, considering you are the Iron Manual Lord of Destruction, it only goes to follow that you'd be the one to pull MH's linch pin and sit back and watch it come tumbling down.
No offense, Lou. I know the MH Forum was your baby, which actually gives him FOUR children so he'd win a tie with JP anyway. It's more than a little upsetting to see it go in the direction it's going.
Wingsfan, some of those "kids" who hang out on the MH Street Corner have gotten a little too fiesty. I say never go away mad -- GET EVEN!
It's so nice over here!!
