Default Foot Cramps

I consistently get a cramp on the underside of my foot while swimming. It's an annoyance, but not a huge problem. I can usually get rid of it when I push off, but any ideas to help would be appreciated.

You are just messed up aren't you.

Are you curling your toes or something?

I googled around and got a couple of ideas. I must be doing something strange. I'm also upping my potassium intake just to be safe. Figured it couldn't hurt.

I get that too. A few things I've noticed, but yet to perfect to the point of eliminating the cramp. Bananas are good, but they don't prevent it for me. Hydration is really important. Get enough water, but not RIGHT before swimming of course. Also, how hard you push off the wall in your turn is a factor for me. I try not to push too hard in my training and that helps. I figure in an OWS I won't be pushing anyway so I go gentle off the wall.

Are you doing flutter kick or whipkick?

For flutter kick try to move your leg from the hip with your toes pointed or practice with wearing socks in the pool and trying to kick them off

Beside stretching, I also run around swimming pool before swimming to prevent foot cramps

Foot cramps are very hard to get rid of and they can be pretty painful sometimes. I would get them occasionally when I swam competitively. Try stretching it, or rolling your foot over a tennis/lacrosse ball before you swim to try and loosen those muscles up.
