Anyone interested? (just don't ask me to organize please )

Ask and you shall receive. If we can get some people, we could do one...

It would be similar to the Running and Cycling Challenges. You would set a monthly goal of yards or meters that you are going to attempt to complete. Then we're split into 2 teams, and you earn points based on the percentage of your goal that you complete.

Maybe one of our alustrious moderators will help put together a thread for goals?
I have to be honest here though..I've never set any swimming goals..so far. But I'm always up for adding some. Maybe I'll actually get better at it once I set some goals.
Here..I'll throw out one first. My goal..100 laps in the next 30 days.
Most of you guys swimming in the states are swimming yards, correct?
Believe it or not, the pools I have been in so far are all marked with meters. As you say though...to have any real relavence we tend to think..now what is that in yards or feet. Thus my reference to swimming a mile..
Last summer I swam the mile at boy scout camp. They have an olympic pool at camp. We had to do 16 laps (down and back is a lap) to complete the entire mile.
Now..what I figured out here is..the pool at camp must be a 50 meter pool..that is you would be doing 100 meters per lap. That being the case...16 laps would be, roughly, a mile.
That said..I don't think the pool I am hitting now is 50 but 25 meters.
I realized after doing the math (properly) that I actually only swam a half mile if this is the case. Boy is my bubble busted.
Well..I did have a lot left in the tank..I guess that explains it.
Shee it. Ok.. I'm going for a mile. Damnit.
Oh..and I will ask someone the actual length of their pool.
I figure that we can just sort of track or distance here, until it is decided if we are going to do a monthly challenge Like the Cyling and Running boards.
Sooo...I need to complete like 35 laps to do a mile. HOLY CRAP.
Ok. ok..ok..
I think my pool even has the distances and number of laps required to get that distance posted and I made the same (similar) mistake last year. Like you, I knew inside that I hadn't worked hard enough. When I was a kid, I remember having to do a mile swim for a YMCA swimming certification and I did it no problem. A few years ago, I was doing 1 hour swims at lunch so I probably got more than a mile in. Still, last year, I just kind of got confused for some reason... oh well.
Yesterday. 35 laps... Dang it.. now that I do the math..that's 5250 feet. not 5280 feet. I needed almost another lap to get a full mile. sheesh. Well I had plenty left in the tank..I'll getter dun next time.
That sucks when that happens, you think you went a certain distance and after you are home, you figure out you just missed it...but the good thing is, there is always the next day, as you said, to "getter dun"
