Martin Strel, a legendary Guinness record marathon swimmer, has always been looking for the challenges of impossible, and the Amazon is going to be the next one. On Feb 1st 2007, Strel started swimming all the way from Atalaya (Peru) to the Atlantic Ocean at Belem (Brazil). He is planning to complete the 3,375 mile (5,430 km) ultimate challenge in 70 days.
You can keep track of his progress on the map below, which will be updated daily with his exact location.
I couldn't post the map but check it out with the story HERE.
Meh, what's the big deal? He's going downstream! It's like a two month float trip!
Now if he went the other direction, then that would be impressive as hell.
j/k, it is pretty impressive. There's way too many critters in that water for me, though. Big and little both.

I was reading about this before he started. He said his biggest fear was this little fish with barbs that swims up your urethra and gets stuck. OW!!!
Other concerns were pirates, the tidal surge as you reach the mouth of the amazon.
I've heard of both of these, there are surfers that surf that tide in because its a really long ride, and the big problem is always falling and getting those up the oooaaa.
