As a Cubs fan, I am really enjoying watching Derrick Lee this season. If you don't know already, he is leading the NL in RBIs, HRs, and BA(aka the triple crown). A lot of sports writers think that he is gonna fade and wind up not leading any of these categories by the end of the season, but I disagree. D-Lee has a great attititude as he is humble, yet confident. I think his attititude is really gonna carry him and the Cubs throughout the season and he will defintley lead at least one of these categories come the fall. Any other Cubs/D-Lee fans out there....what do ya'll think?

Pujols

Doesn't matter which category; but he will get D-Lee in at least 1 of the 3.

I've always liked Derrick Lee, but until this year he was known more for his defense than his batting. He'll have great numbers at the end of the year, but logic tells me that he'll fade a little bit. I really don't see him hitting .380 all year. His career high average is .282.

I agree with Ninja, Pujols will close the gap on him statistically. That guy is a machine.

I think the thing that will save Derrick Lee is that nobody is really talking about it/him. If Pujols or ARod were chasing the Triple Crown, it'd be everywhere, and SportsCenter would have a feature on it every night.

He's a pimp, and he's doing it without much support in front of him or behind him (you could call Jeremy Burnitz support...). If the Cubbies go get another big stick to hit behind him, it's up to him to screw it up, since they'll have to pitch to him. It's going to be a fun summer to watch.

ESPN's Cold Pizza show was talking about him for on of their 1st and 10 topics, but the conversation quickly switched to A-Rod and Puljos discussion. I mean those guys are unreal too, but what D-Lee is doing right now is amazing. I think Puljos will wind up leading HRs, but D-Lee has a shot at BA or RBIs. The problem wit HRs is that it's hard to hit them at Wrigley when the wind is blowing in...real hard. But it should be a fun season to watch like you said emartin.

Rip, Yeah I'm in there with the Lovable Losers. It's been a rough season. It's nice when we win 5 or 6 in a row, but we always follow that up with a longer losing streak.

I think Derrick Lee is absolutely fantastic. He's an all around great player and I'm glad he got the starting spot at first base over my nemesis Albert Pujols for the All Star Game.

That was quite a scare we (cubs fans) had concerning his shoulder the other day. But it looks like he's going to be fine. He jacked another 2 run homer today against Florida. I can't believe we did so terrible in the last 8 games and then you go and win 3 straight against Dontrelle Willis and Crew.

What do you think about the Corey Patterson Demotion? I say fair riddance. He's been too inconsistent for me, and swings at too many balls.

If Lee didn't get the start, I would have boycotted the damn All Star game. That would have been ridiculous.

Cubbies will go out and get a good CF soon. I bet if the Nationals don't snatch up Preston Wilson, he'll be in a Cubs uni in no time. That would be some support for him...

I am beginning to agree with my neighbor's contention that Dusty doesn't know how to handle a pitching rotation and specifically pitch count. Our pitchers have kept on getting hurt the last two seasons and it doesn't make sense. Sure, he inherited some pitchers with issues (Wood), but then he needs to work around that.

We had arguably the best starting rotation at the beginning of the season, and now we don't have any power to back it up. We better have an amazing 2nd half, because the only thing worse than the Cubbies stinking it up is the White Sox kicking some serious ass.

Can I add the Cardinals into that equation?

Corey Patterson had to go IMO. They kept on saying "but he has so much talent and potential"...who cares. The guy doesnt't even have the patience to take a walk every one in a while and he didn't know a strike from a wild pitch. Good bye and have fun in AAA(if he can make it there) lol.

But speaking of trades and potential, please remind me again why we got rid of two 2005 all-stars; Mosies Alou and Matt Clement. I mean people keep on talking about how Jim Hendry is such a great GM for bringing in players(Nomar Garciawherethehellareyou) but what about failing to keep these 2 guys....I dont get it. I will excuse him for trading D-Train, cus at the time he was just a proscpect, but Alou and Clement were both very solid players last year.

BTW, did anyone catch the story about that guy "Wild" Bill Holden who walked from Arizona to Wrigley Field to support Ron Santo and JDRF....wow. I wrote a check to that guy...what a story.

I think Lee is having a terrific season, but I also agree that Pujols will catch him in at least one category. And who knows, if Bonds comes back this season all jacked on the gear, he could lead the league in homers..... just kidding, really.

You want to talk about loveable losers? I'm a KC Royals fan. Geez, at least the Cubs have some players to pull for. OOOOO... Mike Sweeney, the biggest name we've got since Beltran got shipped out for basically nothing at all.
Well, come to think of it, at least the Royals have title in recent memory. I guess the Cubs do have the corner on the "loveable losers".

He wont win the triple crown, IMO he might only be leading in avg the end of the season. His batting avg will cool off, he will finish the season with something between .330 and .350, HR's will be A-Rod, RBI's will be either Manny, Ortiz or A-Rod.

Not betting on Pujols is like saying that Tiger isn't going to make the cut. I love D Lee for what he is doing but Pujol is too easy to bet on.

Isn't Lee historically a better second half player?

He has always had slow starts in his career and then hated up during the 2nd half. This year he has obviously been hot the whole season so far. BTW, he hit HRs #29 and 30 last night.
