He's the center of the Suns offense. Without him, they'd have so many great scorers, but noone to get them the ball. Larry Bird once said something like "It doesn't matter who takes the shot and puts the ball in the basket-the real important dude is the guy who gets the scorer the ball"
of course, that was in my own words

I think you could make the case for about 7 or 8 guys each year to be the MVP.
I don't even know if Nash was the MVP of his own team. What about Amare Stoudamire and Shawn Marion moving positions, thus making the Suns ridiculously undersized, and still putting up huge numbers? I like Nash, but he plays no defense. I think they'll get beat when the play the Spurs or Pistons.
What about Ray Allen as MVP? He carried the Sonics to the 3rd seed in the west.
I'm not saying Nash is undeserving. I just think that there are probably a handful of guys that are as or even more deserving.
Shaq, Ray Allen, Iverson, Dirk, McGrady, Duncan, Stoudamire
I just can't believe that Nash was more valuable to the Suns than Iverson, Dirk, and Ray Allen were to their teams. He had 2 other Allstars on his team playing out of position and still dominating.
Is it possible that the presence of Marion and Stoudemire boosted his assist #'s just as much as his presence boosted their point totals? If so, he was in no way more valuable than them, especially when considering his terrible defense.
I agree with jruck, but honestly I agree Shaq is dominant but could we imagine if he actually got called for even 50% of the fouls he commits? Comeon, he'd be riding the pine all night.
For true MVP I would have to say that Iverson would've gotten my vote. He carries that team on his back, and even with the help(was there really help?) of C.Web...He also turned the other AI Andre Igodoula(sp?) from someone no one knew into a 'baller' - I won't use the word star.
Ray Allen has other people on that team that have a hot hand, but Ray was clutch coming down the stretch, as was Vince Carter the last month of the season, maybe if he could perform all year long and stay healthy.
I think comeback player of the year (if the NBA has one) should be Reggie Miller. With his low mins at the end of last season and start of this season, he really stepped it up at points back to his Reggie "Knick Killer" Miller days...Then he got a Bentley. (HAHA)
The only problem I have with Nash being MVP is that you could put about 10 other PGs in his position and they would've had the same or better stats.
I guess my reasoning is that if Ben Wallace is not an MVP candidate because he only scores 9 ppg, why should Nash be if he plays defense so poorly? An MVP needs to consistently play well on both ends.
By the way, with Johnson out, Dallas will beat the Suns. That was a huge blow last night.
If there was a comeback player of the year award, it has to go to Grant Hill. Nobody else in the league has gone through what he has. Reggie's had a good season, but I'm not sure what he came back from. I think he's just getting a lot of hype because he's retiring.

AI scores 31 a game. CWebb, the next closest, averages half that. The next closest is in single digits. Defense? He was second in the entire league in steals. If AI wasn't a "thug-personality" he would have won it. People don't want him being the face of the NBA...
Fish- I agree that AI was awesome this year. I think he's the most exciting player in the whole league to watch.
However, he won an MVP in 2001 when he was much more controversial. I really don't think his personality/appearance deterred people from voting for him. It seems to me that most of the guys in the press (at least on ESPN and TNT) love the guy.
What kept him from getting more votes was Philly failing to win their division. They had to win 8 out of 10 down the stretch just to get the 7th seed. Had they gone 5-5, the Cavs would have made it and we'd be talking about LeBron as a serious MVP candidate. Also, Korver and Mark Jackson both averaged double digits.
I could talk about the NBA all day long. I'm trying to get tickets to tomorrow night's game between Indy and Detroit. It's going to be awesome!
Well, I went to the game and made it out alive. As you probably know, the Pistons lost. That sucked big time. THe good news is that we had amazing seats directly behind the Pistons bench and 19 rows up. The even better news is that we were able to meet Bill Walton after the game. This was awesome. Here's a pic for proof:
As you can see, the man was large. It's a little fuzzy because I had to compress it, but you get the picture (pun intended). By the way, I'm the one in the Tayshaun Prince jersey. Needless to say, I got some ribbing from the locals. I had a bad feeling about this game, but I feel like Detroit is a lock for Game 4. We'll see how it goes!
Keith- I think that most people probably find him annoying. I used to back in the day. But over the last couple of years, I have started to think that he was pretty funny. It's not saying much, but ESPN doesn't have much better than him.
