If so, what are your busts and plesant surprises so far?
For me:
Busts - Ben Sheets. I thought I was picking up a decent ERA and a good number of strikeouts. Turns out he's put up some pretty average numbers, and now gotten himself sick with a long-term ear infection.
Moises Alou - Nothing like starting out the year on the DL. Damn!
Aubrey Huff - He's given me some power, but his average is way low compared to past years. He's benched these days in favor of Sweeney.
Surprises - Shea Hillenbrand. I almost passed on him, because of his past affiliation with the Red Sox. Glad I didn't, the muther's hitting almost .400!!!
Mike Sweeney - Another surprising BA!!!
With Guerrero, Sweeney, Hillenbrand and the occassional good days from Juan Pierre, Izturis and Burnitz, I usually win most of the offensive categories.
I am in a league with the best ESPN sabermetric fantasy player. Go figure. (He won both the single season and midseason titles last year.)
I sit in last place. My team is finally starting to come together, but when Oliver Perez and Keith Foulke are pitching like crap and you can't drop Juan Pierre (No SB's in this league) you have your work cut out for you.
I need to stop getting into leagues with fantasy monsters. I care, but not nearly enough to log on at midnight to get a guy off waivers. Last season I was in the best league on espn.com; and fittingly I finished last.

Oof, ninja! I'm just in a league with a friend and a bunch of other fans who check in every other day like me. It's competitive, but not time consuming (though there is one guy who moves players in and out daily... he already has 42 transactions... but he's in 8th place... ).
I'm 4th of 12 right now. My buddy is in 1st.
I'd hold on to Pierre, by the way. His average will end up over .300 before season's end.
Only problem is that the stats for hitters are OBP, Slug, R and RBI. He will get me an ok OBP (he doesn't walk much) and lots of runs but he's killer in the slug and RBI. Although his slug is higher than Larry Walker and Victor Martinez right now.

I picked up Brian Roberts in the late rounds of my 12 man league, and was quite annoyed at ignoring 2B and getting 'stuck' with him...HAHAHAHAHA: he's been FANTASTIC so far (not to jinx myself...). Jeet has been off to a great start for me, as has Sheffield, Javy Lopez, and manny's power numbers are coming around, as is his avg. My pitching is pretty awful, but Mulder seems to be getting his control back, and Marquis has been pretty solid for me too.
Piazza, Rolen, and Brian Giles have all gotten off to slow starts for me, but I'm not hitting any panic buttons yet.
I'm currently 6 of 12 (with the 8th pick...God, did THAT suck!) with some VERY knowledgable players. I won my NBA league, but honestly, as long as I come in the top 1/4 of this league (which will be very difficult), I'll feel accomplished!
The only one I'd even consider giving up is *possibly* piazza-big ballpark and he's bound to get injured at some point (knock on wood...), but I'd need to get a really decent offer...as it is, I'm not moving any of those guys anytime soon!
I know what you mean about D. Lee: he's been great! With so many big name moves in the offseason and a couple of notable start to the season slumps, there have been some really nice surprises so far!
I've never been a big Piazza fan. Typically speaking, where you have to draft him is not worth the production you get. My drafting strategy has been to wait on my catchers and second basemen focusing on the other positions before them.
Shifting gears from the position players. Who is the biggest pitching surprise? AJ Burnett is on fire for me so far. Does Schilling count as a bust yet?

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Foulke has been pitching like his name minus the "l"
I have 14.5 points, 15 less than 7th place; and my roster looks like this
Tim Hudson
Keith Foulke
Jon Garland (Picked up yesterday for Haren)
Mark Mulder
Rich Harden
John Smoltz
Zack Greinke
Huston Street
Kiko Calero
B: Oliver Perez
B: Jeremy Affeldt
B: Joe Borowski
Victor Martinez
Paul Konerko
Alfonso Soriano
Eric Chavez
Rafael Furcal
Vladimir Guerrero
Moises Alou
Larry Walker
Jose Guillen
Garret Anderson
Clint Barmes
Mike Sweeney
Mark Kotsay
B: Juan Pierre
Maybe I'm delusional, but that's NOT the roster of a last place team

Ninja: Well, I don't know how you're league works, but I have several of the same players:
Vladimir Guerrero
Moises Alou
Mike Sweeney
Juan Pierre
and I'm doing pretty well. Mine is a head-to-head league I guess they call it, so timing is everything. Also, the stats are different: If my guy goes 1-4 with a 3-run HR, and your guy goes 4-4 with 4 singles, then I benefit in 3 categories (runs, RBI and HR) and you in only one (avg). So I could beat you for the week in 4 of 5 offensive categories while hitting just .200.
Greinke needs to be out of your starting lineup until KC can start putting up some support for him. Look at Gustavo Chacin if you need another pitcher. He might be available if Garland was still available. Erik Bedard is another good one. In deeper leagues I'm looking at Park to see if he's on a hot streak.
For hitters I like Willy Taveras. The average is ok but he is running like a rabbit.

To be truthful, I'm a big Royals fan, so that's why he's in there. I don't want to give him up, and he's pitching better than Perez right now and Affeldt and Borowski are on the DL.

It's one of my rules of fantasy baseball you can't root against the home team ever. No exceptions. It will doom you to the bottom of your league.
So how about instead Geinke you bench Street. With your closers your not going to take the saves cat so an additional starter might boost you in a couple of other categories.
I don't know if you can do that but it's worth a shot.
