Assuming the microscope Bonds will be under, how do you think his performance will be this year without his flax oil?

It will be interesting. Definately something to follow. I wonder how hank arron thinks about this whole record breaking thing and the subject of steroids.

I think we can expect a pretty good season from Mr. Bonds. I don't think he'll hit 50 homeruns, but should end up around .330/35 HR/ 100 RBI. I think that he'll still walk too much to hit any more or drive in any more runs than that. His knee may slow him down early, but I don't expect a dramatic drop-off. We should remember that he was a perrenial MVP candidate even before he blew up. He's not going to turn into Rob Deer.

Did any of you see the press conference yesterday? I'm kind of irritated at the fact that he is blaming everyone else for his problems. Here's an idea Barry, if you don't want the media jumping all over your back, don't take frickin steroids! Whew, that was a tough one to figure out...

I also enjoy that he said he wasn't concerned with the records that much. Then just a few minutes later, when Mr. Canseco was brought up, started asking where Canseco's records were.

Barry, you are a worthless piece of crap who used artificial substances to smash baseball's most hallowed records. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with his ranting if he had proven to us that he didn't juice. Until he does, the cloud will always be hanging over him, maybe with good reason.

Then that would mean everything Canseco says is true, and all of the denials true as well, so there would be just a little overlap there.

I don't know about "everything"....He personally shot up MaGuire? I wouldn't let Jose near me, let alone with a needle in his hand...that being said, I do think a lot of it is true....

And if Barry hadn't used steroids, why would he claim that they don't help you hit a ball? If he hadn't, wouldn't he be a little bitter about those who have shot up?

Most of Jose's claims are probably true (or truth based), but what was MLB doing to police it? These guys knew that they could do steroids without getting in trouble with the league. That's why they've been doing it. There was no drug policy!!

One good thing to come from this may be a greater appreciation for guys like Ken Griffey Jr and Frank Thomas. These are the guys that did it the right way. Could you imagine them on the juice?

Maybe now guys will be appreciated again for hitting 35 homeruns.

That's the interesting argument, that according to MLB rules, until recently steriods were not banned.

But doesn't everybody know that a premier athlete on drugs will always get a 2nd, 3rd, 4th chance?

Fish- I understand and agree with what you're saying, but I think the reasoning was "we can't get suspended if we get caught." They probably also knew that they could probably beat the law if they had to, and took the chance. Are any athletes going to jail in this BALCO case? Not that I know of.

I'm not trying to justify it, but if MLB wasn't outlawing steroids at the time, there should be no asterisks. If BALCO wasn't under investigation, Selig probably wouldn't have even implemented the new drug policy.

Law enforcement officials do not spend large amounts of their time searching for class III drugs such as steroids. in fact I talked to a customs official who has been employed for five years and said they have not once busted somone for simply using steroids. however, they tack on charges if they find it etc. they are more concerend with dealers, class I and II drugs etc.
also, he told me off the record that they often let roids go by if it's for personal use. wow! this may change with our president making a stand, but currently they are of a low priority.

The athletes probably realize this, which is why they take the risk.
