Yup. It blows. I spoke to a few of my buddies on the phone while the announcement was being made early in the afternoon. We all think that the players are idiots, and many of us know a number of the players. The deal ofered by the owners last night is the best the players could have gotten. Every offer in the future will be worse, My guess is that the league will try to impose a deal and bring in replacement players next season. My understanding is that the league could well succeed in doing so (there are some legal hurdles) and create a situation much like the NFL in '87. And I expect that a lot of NHLers will cross the picket lines if this happens.

I'm hoping to be a replacement player next season

I'll play with you CutB8. if a new league forms, will that open up the numbers on the retired jerseys?? I want 16.
Funny how Esche and Ed Snider and all involved in the Flyers organization dislike how their reps handled the situation. Eshe basically said that he makes 775 K playing a sport he loves. What is so bad about that?? Of course, its teams like the Flyers (and leafs, avs, red wings, rangers) that forced the bottom dwellers into convincing Bettman that this needed to be done.
Not that I disagree. But I cannot beleive no one had the idea that they should just split the 6 mil. cap difference and call it a day. I do that type of thing everyday in my job. Perhaps I should submit a resume............
One other thing - if there wasn't a decent AHL franchise 10 minutes from my house, I would really be going nuts about now. But, for the amount I typically spend on attending Flyers games in a year (about 5-6) I can buy season tickets to an AHL team.
not that is is the same but....the beer is cheaper.
Speaking of the AHL, I hope the NHL adopts some of the experiments they have put into place this year. I've really enjoyed some of the changes.

From what I've read. B.C. has labour laws which will make it diffcult for the Canucks to play there with replacement guys. The rumour is that they would play their games in Winterpeg----you wouldn't have yo leave town. I've read the same thing about Quebec--- the Habs would potentially play in Hamilton until the NHLPA agrees to a deal.
Woo hoo...training camp for me starts tonight. need to shake the rust off the Tin Man...hey I should give my classmate Fergie Jr. a call...hell connections are connections...see you on the ice!

What I really want to see is the legal challenges that I've heard tossed around about the ownership of the Cup go forward. With the NHL out of commission, it can apparently be argued that property of the Stanley Cup is the Dominion of Canada. My favourite suggestion is the one that has the Canadian University champs playing the Allen Cup winner for the Stanley Cup. I'd kill for tickets to see that!
Just saw on CBS that the decision was reversed and they agreed on a 45 mil. $ cap. The 2 sides will meet tomorrow in NYC to iron out the rest of the details.
I had hoped they could work this out when they unofficially "Un-cancelled" the season on the weekend. Now they've pissed people off even more, myself included with the "Final cancellation."
