Ok, so we all know it. Last week's "walking off the field" incident wasn't the first time.

But tonight he reached a new low: After scoring a TD on Green Bay, he simulated pulling down his pants, mooning the GB crowd, and then rubbing his ass on the goal post.

"Well, that's just the way he is", and "He's a great receiver" don't cut it for me. Somebody should spank the little boy out of him. I don't know if that means suspensions, fines or what, but it's a disgrace to the NFL.

Well I'm happy for you, and I don't dislike the Vikings.

Moss is still a low-class jerk.

Randy Moss has always been a low class jerk. That's why he was drafted late in the first round. He's a thug, but he has tremendous talent. His attitude will never change. He'll probably get fined, but I think that T.O.'s and Joe Horn's shenanigans were worse. At least Moss was just fucking with the crowd.

Don't kid yourself Eric, the Vikes have a terrible defense & Moss is hobbling. Philly will likely initiate Randy's Hawaian vacation.

I hate him too, but he IS a great receiver (as much as I'd like to see Urlacher clean his clock across the middle). I guess I'm a little more forgiving of his antics today because it was towards the Green Bay fans. J/K.

PS: As much as I hate GB, I was cheering for them today because I can't stand the Vikings en toto. Rivalries aside, GB has a lot more class and a great organization and fan base.

The NFC is up for grabs. No one knows which Eagles team will show up next week as they haven't played a meaningful game in a month and one of their primary weapons is out of the lineup.

Atlanta should beat St Louis.

Indy could beat NE next week. The Pats' secondary is beat up.

I'll be surprised if Pittsburgh doesn't beat NYJ.

Yeah..the Vikes D is horrible, but they were playing without Winfield for a while..
I just don't see where Philly's offense will score that many points..Todd Pinkston? Mitchell?

I figure the Vikes can score at least 17..and with 9.5 point line..I don't know if philly can outscore that..

The real question re Moss is how did he get all that hair in his helmet? The dudes a jerk. 9.5 points is a lot but I still like Philly at home, with a couple of weeks to rest up, even with Owens. Of course I lost me ass this weekend.

Randy Moss is a cock. I can't wait till they play the Eagles next week and Dawkins comes over the top and cheap shots him. Oh man that's going to be great. If you see in my "wicked bored" post I hate him very much. By the way, Kaiser you'll never see Urlacher do that to himm cause he's a bitch and won't go over the middle. You've got to hope for someone like Donovon Darius or Brian Dawkins to get a hold of him...

PS. Brett Favre should be allowed to shit on his face, jsut cause he's such an arrogant douche bag.

I like'em.

IMO people (especially the press) make far too big a deal out of what he does. Just yesterday Mike Irvin was DOGGING him on international telivision. All I could think of while hearing him was "you did crack while playing...seriously dude you smoked rocks. how the fuck are you going to sit there on tv and talk trash to a dude for walking off the field 2 secs. early? YOU SMOKED CRACK!!"

I don't think that what he does is "right" but I don't think it's nearly as big a deal as people make it out to be. The man is still the most talented reciever in the NFL.

Good point, gobbla. BTW--I love Terry B and Howie getting all self-righteous during the post-game about what an idiot RM is. If you missed it, RM cursed during the post-game.

Hey dumb-asses, Here's an idea:
Don't interview him after the game. And how funny would it be if nobody mentioned it during the Post-game interviews, or asked him any questions at all?
"Next up for the press, Randy Moss. Who wants to ask the first question? Anyone? Hello? I sthis thing on..."
Sports reporters like RM bvecause he gives them something to talk about besides two huge blowouts on Sunday.

BTW, Z...You really need to learn to express yourself. You hold too much back....

Fish: sure, the media never lets things go, even when they should, HOWEVER:

Terry Bradshaw and Howie Long were talented, classy football players (more Bradshaw than Long, but still) and have every right to complain when some little punk from the streets is aiding the decline of the class of their beloved NFL.

And the cameraman was just doing what he always does: follows the player for a moment after the TD is scored. So thousands of black kids out there now know that it's ok to rub your ass on the opponent's goalpost, because the only people to have a problem with it are those stiff white-guys with suits on in the booth.

How many young black children out there idolize the successful black athletes, and in fact hope (and probably believe they will be able) to follow in their footsteps. After all, it's no secret that for poorer black children, sports is a strong possibility for a "way out" of financial difficulty. I grew up in the south (and my mother still teaches elementary school there) so that's where I'm coming from on this.

Now people like Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Ricky Williams are displaying their severely immature attitude problems... and getting away with it. At least Williams finally did himself in (though there's already talk that somebody might give him yet another shot!).

Fault the media for a million things (and I agree), but these players KNOW they're on TV, and they KNOW (if they stopped to think) who is watching.

Just a little responsibility!

I've got news for you, RHG--it's not just black kids who idolize these fools. Middle-class (and up!) white kids idolize them just as much. Witness the young suburban Allen Iverson wannabes.

I just thought it was funny Howie and Terry were talking about RM cursing and acting like an idiot after the game, when it was their network who chose to interview him. Listen to Fox Sports Radio this morning and it is all they are talking about....and not just the mooning/wiping.

The idolization of 'stars' is a problem that goes beyond the football field. Essence mag just did an editorial that called for more responsible lyrics from hip-hop/rap artists because of the very widespread effect it was having with young kids of all racial persuasions. Their concern was specifically the violence, misogynism, and vulgarity that gobbla referenced. Last year, R&B/hip-hop/rap songs accounted for 66 of the top 100 Billboard songs.

Aside from the interest of a magazine geared primarily towards African-Americans commenting on a phenomenon that has spread to white suburbia, the commentary itself speaks about just how widespread the influence and imitation of 'superstars in the media' has become.

Kaiser, gobbla, and Fish: I understand what you're saying. You're all pretty much on the mark, just from a different angle.

4 things:

1 - Movies, music and tv at least have the potential to express those issues in an artful, informative, educational or meaningful way.

2 - And if white kids are copying them too, then this supports my point even more.

3 - Just because things are bad/worse elsewhere doesn't mean that we should let the NFL degenerate into the same mess. (gobbla: How many secondary and tertiary objectives are there in every assault in Iraq? You wouldn't tell the officers that they're wasting their time by shoring up the smaller parts.) All of these things (music, tv, sports) need to be addressed and improved... I'm referring to this one in particular. In other words, I'm not highlighting Moss as the source of the problem... he's just another strong element, one which I happened to have seen first hand a mere minutes before I posted here.

4 - Fish, you're right that the media should ignore him. Just like parents learn when it's best to not respond every time their child whines. They are certainly at fault. This still doesn't excuse Moss.

I didn't think it was that big a deal, at the time. Evidentally, neither did Tony Dungy...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playof...ory?id=1963829

Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy said he saw Moss' action and, "I thought it was kind of humorous."

"It's not the kind of thing you want to see on national TV, but I understand what it was all about," he said.

"Anyone who has played in the NFC Central knows what that's about. The fans in Green Bay have a tradition in the parking lot after the game where they moon the visiting team's bus," he said. "It's kind of a unique sendoff."

"I had seen it seven times because when I was with the Vikings, we lost to them seven times up there," he said.

.............................. ...................

Now, I think it's freaking hillarious!!

What the fans do is completely beside the point.

Perhaps it's just a matter of the gradual decline of class and respect in the country. If most people (including coaches) don't mind, then maybe I should give it up and accept the loss.

RH, I don't think so in this case. I, too, find his behavior reprehensible, but I should've been more explicit in my first post above. The action of Moss is a direct 'in your face' to the fans of GB, who do what was noted in the quote above by Dungy. Much like TO when he mimicked Ray Lewis.

I used to really hate the guy, and I certainly don't think he is a role model, but his teammates say he works as hard as anyone and is a good guy to have on the team. This is so counter to the public perception that it is amazing.

I DO agree with you that it is a matter of general decline of behavior in society. I absolutely love it when a player scores a touchdown and 'acts like he's been there before.' I think that is often a reflection on the coach - certainly in college this is more the case. My NU Wildcats just flip the ball to the refs, or in the case of a last second game winning score, will often jump onto each other. But never any showboating because that is the way their coach, Randy Walker, teaches them to play. I like that old school, no BS, no trashtalking, no showboating type of play. But in today's media savvy world, it is becoming less and less of an occurence. And the kids see it and mimic so it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle. Blame Billy 'Whiteshoes' Johnson for starting the trend back in the '70s. In Chicago, David Terrell was really disliked by the fans because he showboated after every catch, even the 5 yard ones. He was booed so often at home (fans in Chicago like the grind it out work ethic that is synonomous with our city) that he has really cut it back. What's interesting is that despite his on-field demeanor, apparently he is very giving of his time off the field. An interesting contrast, just like Moss.

Chicago would really love to have players like Brett Favre, Mike Allstott, Jerry Rice. No nonsense guys who just like to practice hard and play hard and get it done. I wish most of the NFL were like them.

First off, I don't really like or dislike Randy Moss. I like to see him play, but I don't really care for him as a person or teammate.

This incident was definately immature and off color. However, I think that we need to put a little perspective on this. I don't think that anybody's lives will be damaged or threatened by what they saw.

Are people upset that someone would have the audacity to pretend to pull his pants down and pretend to moon a crowd?
Or, are people upset because it was Randy Moss who pretended to pull his pants down and moon the crowd on the frozen tundra of the sacred Lambeau Field?

If it was Joey Harrington pretending to moon the Arizona Cardinals crowd, I doubt that people would be too upset. Although, that would be highly out of character.

The fact that Packers fans have probably been mooning Moss and his teammates for the last 7 years puts a little perspective on the situation.

Now, I don't think that mooning somebody is ever appropriate, but I think it's up to parents to teach their children the difference between right and wrong. America didn't grow up adoring Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Elvis Presley, and Michael Jordan because of their exemplary behavior. It was because they were good at what they did. It's our job to differentiate entertainment from the entertainer.

Well, this post has been a little all over the place. I think I got a little deeper than I intended. The point is, it was a dumb thing to do. But, I don't think it was something that will contribute to the decline of morality in this society.

In my opinion, there have already been many far more damaging occurences in sports and entertainment for this to make much impact on society. Maybe, that's the sad thing about this incident.

Like him or not, that was just plain stupid. That was done to inflame the Packer fans, which seems to lack maturity and professionalism. Not minimizing his ability, because he is awesome, just that the behavior the last few weeks is unnceessary.

True. I consider it to be another example of it. It's caused very little damage on its own... but all the small incidents add up to a very big problem, especially if each individual occurrence is blown off.

Ok, I dont think I made my point clear. It's not just because of this incident that I dont liek Moss it's several things.

1. Play football and go over the middle. You're a professional receiver. Don't cut your routes short just cause you're going to get clocked. You make yourself and quarterback look bad.

2. "I'll play when I want to." No. You'll play when the fucking owner wants you to, because he's paying you millions of dollars a year.

3. May I remind you all, he RAN OVER A TRAFFIC OFFICER, while he had weed in his car. I'm sorry, but running over the cop is stupid enough, but while you've got drugs on you too is just plain stupid.

4. "I don't know if Coach Tice is the right coach for this team, but I got his back." If you're going out in the media and saying you don't know if your team has the right coach you really don't have his back.

5. There are millions of people who would give a shitload to do what you do for a living. Don't take it for granted and leave the field early. What a fucking sore loser (and winner).

6. I just have 1 name for every person who pulls all this endzone bullshit. Barry Sanders. Argueably the best RB in NFL history NEVER once spiked a ball or anything like that. Just scored his TDs and handed the ball to the ref.

All in all, Randy has always been and always will be an asshole. That's why he didn't go to FSU like he was supposed to, becuase he's a moron and doesn't know how to handle himself ON or OFF of the field.

And now all these sports comentators are saying that the Lynch hit was worse and that if Lynch didn't get suspended neither should Moss. What Lynch did was a part of football. People need to stop being pussies and completely ruining the game. I can't believe you can't even like cough on a receiver anymore without being flagged, and anytime a receiver like Moss cries he gets the call. Football is a contact sport and these guys are professionals, they need to stop crying about getting touched. Personally, I don't think Moss should be suspended because I can't wait to see Michael Lewis and Brain Dawkins tear him a new asshole when he's running his little fade up the sideline. I'm telling you right now, Brain Dawkins will have none of what Randy Moss did last week in HIS house.

PS. I'm not even an Eagles fan. I actually can't stand them, just like to see football played the way it's supposed to be played.

Rockhard-
I hear you. I just think that this incident was more childish than it was obscene.

I still believe that if it wasn't Moss, it wouldn't be so blown out of proportion.

I'm pretty damn sure you meant to type 'Walter Payton' in this point and it was just a little mental slip. So I'll do it for you and make sure it read right:

I just have 1 name for every person who pulls all this endzone bullshit. Walter Payton. Definitely the best all-around player in NFL history NEVER once spiked a ball or anything like that. Just scored his TDs and handed the ball to the ref. NEVER EVER ran out of bounds - who does that these days?
